Liputan6.com, Jakarta Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman announced that he is stepping down from band activities for the rest of 2025. The reason is that he must take steps to overcome problems with his hands.

The announcement was made jointly by Trohman and Fall Out Boy through a post on the official Instagram account.

The 40-year-old guitarist said a break from the band was necessary because surgery was needed to deal with ongoing problems with his right hand. He didn't want the damage to be permanent.

"Hi everyone, after years of dealing with ongoing issues with my right hand, it's clear that I need surgery to avoid permanent damage," Joe Trohman said, quoting the upload statement, Wednesday (July 9).

"Unfortunately, this means I have to take the whole year off from playing with the band. The bright side is that I'm on track for a full recovery," he continued.

The good news is that the 40-year-old guitarist stated that Fall Out Boy's tour will continue as scheduled.

"I want to recover soon so I can return to activities with friends. Thank you very much for the support and love," he said.

The condition of his mental health

For your information, this is the second time Trohman has temporarily stepped down from Fall Out Boy. In January 2023, he decided to take an indefinite break to focus on his mental health.

At that time, he said, "Neil Young once said that it's better to be tired than to disappear. However, I can tell you unequivocally that burnout is terrible. In order not to disappear and never return, I put myself and my mental health first."

Not for long, Trohman returned to band activities in May 2023.

No one has been replaced yet

On the other hand, Fall Out Boy has not confirmed who will fill the guitarist position during Trohman's absence. They have a busy schedule, which includes the Cowboys Music Festival in Calgary (July 8), the Minnesota Yacht Club festival in St. Paul (July 19), Summer Sonic in Japan (August 16-17), and three shows in Brazil.

Fall Out Boy will close out their summer festivals at Oceans Calling Festival in Ocean City, Maryland, on September 28.
