Liputan6.com, Jakarta James Gunn is reportedly considering at least two Superman spin-off television series. The news comes after the movie starring David Corenswet grossed more than US$22 million from box office previews.

Based on a Wall Street Journal report, as quoted by Deadline on Friday (July 11), Gunn is interested in further developing the story of Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) and Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo).

There has been no official report or response from James Gunn regarding the news.

After Superman (2025), James Gunn is set to return with Peacemaker season 2, which is scheduled to release on August 21. After that, the Lanterns series starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre is set to premiere in 2026.

DCU overhaul plan

James Gunn and DC boss Peter Safran previously revealed the DCU overhaul plan, which includes two live-action films and one animated film per year.

They also plan to release two live-action TV series and two animated TV series per year.

The Superman movie will be the opening of the James Gunn and Peter Safran-era DC Universe. That era opened with the first part of the DCU universe, named Gods and Monsters.

Gunn and Safran also announced nine other titles, consisting of movies and series. They are The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, which will tell the story of Batman and Robin, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing.

Then, several series are also developed for this series of sagas, such as Creature Commandos, Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold.

The making of the Superman 2025 story

Meanwhile, Superman (2025) Superman (David Corenswet) must reconcile his Kryptonian alien heritage with his human life as reporter Clark Kent as well as his adopted family in Smallville, Kansas.

James Gunn wrote the Superman story with a different approach from previous releases. He tells the story with a setting in a world that already knows the existence of Superman, no longer telling the story from the beginning of Kal-El's arrival to Earth.

This makes Superman widely known to citizens. Clark Kent and Lois Lane are acquainted, and Lex Luthor hates Superman's presence, even though they don't know each other.

The movie also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Clark Kent's coworker at the Daily Planet. Then, Nicholas Hoult, who plays Lex Luthor, CEO of LuthorCorp and Superman's archenemy.
