The question of which studio is leading the project remains unanswered—a first for a mainline Fallout title.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Rumors around Fallout 5’s development are heating up as reports from industry insiders suggest the next major entry in the iconic post-apocalyptic RPG franchise has been “fully greenlit” and is actively in development.

However, the question of which studio is leading the project remains unanswered—a first for a mainline Fallout title.

How The Rumor Started

The rumor originates from Jez Corden, executive editor at Windows Central, who discussed Fallout's future on the Xbox Two podcast.

According to Corden, Microsoft made the strategic move to cancel ZeniMax Online’s unannounced MMO project codenamed “Blackbird,” reallocating those resources to Fallout 5 due to the latter’s “surefire win” status in the gaming market.

MMOs carry enormous development costs and must compete against well-established games like World of Warcraft and The Elder Scrolls Online—a gamble Microsoft chose not to take, instead backing the proven Fallout brand.

Will Bethesda Really Makes It?

Bethesda Game Studios, historically behind the Fallout series, is reportedly still focused on Starfield DLC and The Elder Scrolls VI, making it unlikely they are presently leading Fallout 5’s core development.

As a result, the specific studio responsible for Fallout 5 is under speculation, with some industry sources suggesting that Microsoft may tap another internal team, or possibly even look outside Bethesda for support.

This uncertainty has set the Fallout community abuzz with theories about the game’s creative direction and potential changes.

So What's Next for Fallout 5?

While no official statement or development roadmap has been released by Bethesda or Microsoft, the recurring sentiment from credible insiders and analysts is that Fallout 5 is many years away from release—potentially “around 2030,” given the full production schedule and average timelines for similarly ambitious RPGs from Bethesda.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to rumored remasters, such as Fallout 3 Remastered, which many believe could launch sooner to capitalize on renewed interest in the series following the success of Amazon’s Fallout TV show.

Though the reports remain rumors until feature announcements are made, the evidence points to an active, if early, stage of development for Fallout 5—one driven by renewed publisher confidence and market momentum, but still veiled in secrecy when it comes to details about its leadership and creative direction.
