Liputan6.com, Jakarta Dan Rivera, a paranormal investigator and one of the caretakers of the famous Annabelle doll, died suddenly over the weekend, July 13, 2025.
Rivera, a Connecticut native, had cared for the doll popularized by The Conjuring film series based on the work of Ed and Lorraine Warren.
For your information, Lorraine Warren is also a direct teacher for Dan Rivera.
Rivera is part of the NESPR (New England Society for Psychic Research) group touring with the Annabelle doll in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, this weekend.
The news of Rivera's death was shared on the organization's social media.
Unclear cause of death
However, it is still unclear what caused Dan's sudden death.
Adams County clerk Francis Dutrow, who conducted the investigation into Dan's death, said that the cause of Rivera's death is still pending autopsy results.
The final results of the autopsy, according to the office, may take several months to be reported.
In an additional statement, Adams County Chief Scott Pennewill said that the death did not appear suspicious and that Rivera was found alone in his hotel room.
“The death was not suspicious,” Pennewill said.
"The county and state police were called to the scene on Sunday night. The body did undergo an autopsy today and is still pending," he continued.
Investigating every death
The county office investigates every sudden, suspicious, violent or unexplained death that occurs in Adams County.
Routine death investigations are also conducted for any remains that “appear to have died of natural causes but were not under the care of a physician or had no significant medical history.”
Pennewill also added that the Annabelle doll was not at the scene and Rivera was found alone.
He said that Annabelle may have been in a van in the hotel parking lot, although he has not been able to officially confirm the doll's location.
Annabelle is an endless source of fascination on social media, according to its managers, due to the haunting stories that surround the doll.
