Liputan6.com, Jakarta Matt Cameron has resigned from his position as Pearl Jam drummer, but he denied the assumption that the decision was taken because of his desire to retire.

As is known, Cameron officially left Pearl Jam on July 7. He ended his journey with the Seattle grunge icon after 27 years.

“After 27 fantastic years, I have taken my final step on the drum stage for the mighty Pearl Jam,” Cameron said, quoting the caption of the Instagram upload, Friday, July 18.

Much respect

“Much love and respect to Jeff (Ament), Ed (Vedder), Mike (McCready), and Stone (Gossard) for inviting me into the band in 1998 and giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, filled with friendship, art, challenges, and laughter,” he added. "I am forever grateful to the crew, staff and fans around the world. It's been an incredible journey. There will be more news to come. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart."

Cameron did not publicly reveal the reasons behind his decision, but in another statement on Instagram, the 62-year-old drummer stated that he was far from retiring from music.

"Thanks for the support. And for the record, I'm still an active musician," Cameron said, answering the assumption briefly and emphatically.

An important person

Along with Matt Cameron's statement, Pearl Jam also issued a statement on its official Instagram account, saying the drummer had played a pivotal role in shaping an important chapter in the band's journey.

"From being one of our first musical heroes in the great bands Skinyard and Soundgarden, to playing on our very first demo in 1990, Matt Cameron has been an incredible, incredible musician and drummer. He has spurred Pearl Jam's live shows and studio recordings for the past 27 years. It was a very important chapter for our group and we always wish him the best," Pearl Jam wrote.

"He will be greatly missed and will always be our friend in art and music. We love you Matt."

During his time as Pearl Jam's drummer, Matt Cameron was involved in seven studio albums, starting with “Binaural” in 2000 and concluding with “Dark Matter,” released in April 2024.
