During the “Toon’d In with Jim Cummings” podcast, the voice actor who is casted as Robot #4 in 'Superman' movie by James Gunn, claimed he was dropped from the marketing of 2004’s “I, Robot”.

 


The 'I, Robot' Controversy and Alan Tudyk's Confession

One of Alan Tudyk's most significant roles was as the robot Sonny in the science fiction film I, Robot (2004).

This role was crucial to the film's narrative, as Sonny was designed to feel emotions and was key to unraveling the mystery of Dr. Alfred Lanning's death.

However, Alan Tudyk revealed that his contribution to the film was not properly acknowledged in promotional materials.

He claimed that 20th Century Fox deliberately excluded him from the film's press tour after learning that his character, Sonny, received higher ratings than Will Smith in test audiences.

Tudyk expressed disappointment that his efforts in portraying Sonny were not properly recognized.

"A lot of people didn't know I did Sonny the robot in I, Robot, and there's a reason for that, actually. They were doing test audiences with the movie, and they scored the characters in this kind of test audience, and I got word back, 'Alan, you're testing higher than Will Smith.'"

Born Alan Wray Tudyk on March 16, 1971, in El Paso, Texas, Alan Tudyk attended Plano Sr. High School, Lon Morris Jr. College, and the Juilliard School of Drama.

His career began in the late 1990s, with his film debut in 35 Miles from Normal (1997) and television in the series Strangers with Candy.

Alan Tudyk quickly gained widespread recognition for his role as Hoban "Wash" Washburne in the TV series Firefly (2002–2003) and its sequel, Serenity (2005).

These roles not only propelled him into the spotlight but also built a loyal fan base.

He is also known for other iconic roles such as Wat in A Knight's Tale (2001), Steve the Pirate in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004), and Tucker in the horror comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010).
