Liputan6.com, Jakarta Real Madrid kicked off their 2025-2026 La Liga campaign with a positive result.

They secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid.

The match took place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 9:00 PM CEST.

Los Blancos' lone goal came from their star striker, Kylian Mbappé, who converted a penalty in the 51st minute.

This victory provided a promising start for new Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso in his official league debut.

Xabi Alonso's Sweet Debut and Mbappé's Goal

Xabi Alonso began his coaching career at Real Madrid with a victory in their opening La Liga match.

The legendary former midfielder successfully led his team to three crucial points at home.

Alonso, who started the game with three of the club's new signings - Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras - in his backline, then brought on 18-year-old Argentine midfielder Franco Mastantuono for his debut.

Kylian Mbappé was Real Madrid's hero in this match.

The French striker scored from the penalty spot in the 51st minute.

The penalty was awarded after Mbappé was brought down by Juan Cruz in the penalty area.

Real Madrid Domination

As reported by One Football, Real Madrid dominated the match with 71% possession.

They also completed 660 passes, far surpassing Osasuna's 230.

The match also marked the debut for young Argentine midfielder Franco Mastantuono.

Mastantuono almost immediately made an impact, with his shot from a wide angle being tipped over by Herrera at his near post.

Minutes earlier, Osasuna had a chance to equalize, but Ante Budimir's header from inside the box went over.

Red Card Incident

The Real Madrid vs. Osasuna match was also marked by several card incidents.

Kylian Mbappé received a yellow card from the referee.

At the end of the match, Osasuna were reduced to 10 men after Abel Bretones was shown a straight red card.

Bretones was sent off in the 90+4 minute for pushing Gonzalo Garcia.

With Barcelona beating Mallorca 3-0 in their opening match, three points were a must for Alonso, and he did so without the injured Jude Bellingham, Ferland Mendy, Eduardo Camavinga and Endrick, as well as the suspended Antonio Ruediger.
