Arsenal have secured Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, hijacking a transfer that Tottenham Hotspur was close to completing. How did Arsenal manage to land Eze?

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Arsenal are reportedly closing in on securing the signature of Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze.

The North London club has reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Palace for a transfer estimated to be worth around £60 million.

This was also confirmed by the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently.

Arsenal's move has come as a surprise to many, especially after they hijacked a deal that was almost completed by their city rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham thought they had secured Eze, but Arsenal made a last-minute move.

Arsenal's decision to move quickly in the pursuit of Eze is said to have been prompted by Kai Havertz's knee injury.

Eze is scheduled to undergo a medical on Friday, August 22, 2025.

Eze Transfer Deal to Arsenal

Arsenal are now on the verge of signing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for an impressive transfer fee.

Reports suggest the deal is worth around £60 million, with potential increases of up to £68 million including add-ons.

This transfer hijacking has drawn attention, given that Tottenham Hotspur had previously reached a verbal agreement with Palace and the player.

However, Tottenham's delay in formalizing the deal, which may have wanted Eze available for the Conference League match, has opened up an opportunity for Arsenal.

Arsenal's interest in Eze has been rekindled after Kai Havertz suffered a knee injury during the win against Manchester United.

Eberechi Eze: New Star for The Gunners?

Eberechi Oluchi Eze, born on June 29, 1998, is a 27-year-old English attacking midfielder.

He is known as a versatile player who can operate as an attacking midfielder, No. 8, No. 10, or even as a winger, providing valuable options for coaches.

Eze's senior career began with Queens Park Rangers (QPR) in 2016, after a loan spell with Wycombe Wanderers.

Interestingly, Eze is also a product of various English football academies, including Arsenal's academy until the age of 13.

Eze's breakthrough season came in 2019-2020 with QPR, where he scored 14 goals and was named the club's Player of the Year.

In 2020, he joined Crystal Palace for £17 million and has made over 150 appearances for the club.

His notable achievements include scoring the only goal in the 2025 FA Cup final, which earned Crystal Palace their first major trophy.

Eze also made his senior England debut in 2023 and represented his country at UEFA Euro 2024.

The 2023/2024 season was his best in terms of attacking contribution, with 11 goals and four assists in 27 Premier League appearances.

Why Eze Chose Arsenal Over Tottenham?

Eberechi Eze's decision to choose Arsenal over Tottenham Hotspur was inextricably linked to his personal preferences.

Emotional connection was a key factor; Eze has been a childhood Arsenal supporter and attended the Gunners' academy until the age of 13.

Meetings with Arsenal's sporting director, Andrea Berta, and manager Mikel Arteta also strengthened his desire to join.

On the other hand, Tottenham's delay in formalizing the deal, which had already been agreed in principle, backfired.

This delay, reportedly caused by Palace's desire to keep Eze in Conference League matches, actually opened the door for Arsenal to swoop in and secure the player.

Eze's ambition for trophies was also a factor.
