This tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at approximately 12:24 p.m. local time, when police received the first report of an active shooter on school grounds.

The shooting, which occurred at the school, located approximately 40 minutes southwest of Denver, injured three students.
In a statement, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said he was "devastated" by the shooting.
"My heart goes out to the victims and their families as they grapple with this senseless act of violence," Polis said.
How the Shooting Incident Happened
On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at approximately 12:24 p.m. local time, police received the first emergency call regarding a shooting at Evergreen High School.
Authorities responded immediately, with officers arriving on the scene within two minutes of the call.Evergreen High School, where the shooting occurred, is located in Jefferson County, Colorado.
The shooting at Evergreen High School resulted in three students being injured.
Two of the students injured by gunfire are reported to be in critical condition and require intensive medical attention, while one other student suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
All victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Details of the Shooting Suspect and the Weapon Used
The perpetrator in the Colorado school shooting has been identified as a 16-year-old male student at Evergreen High School, his complete identity has not been released by authorities.
"This is the scariest thing you'd think could ever happen," said sheriff's office spokesperson Jacki Kelley at an earlier news conference.
Kelley said she could not provide any other details about the suspected shooter, including the suspect's age or gender.
"I don't know if our suspect is even old enough to drive," Kelley said.
After the shooting, the perpetrator was found dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the perpetrator died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound by using a pistol or revolver.
Hundreds of law enforcement officers from multiple agencies immediately responded to the shooting at Evergreen High School.
To facilitate the parents and their children, a reunification center was immediately opened at Bergen Meadow Elementary School.
After the shooting, hundreds of police officers were on the scene searching each room on campus, according to law enforcement.
History of Shooting Incidents in Colorado
Jefferson County Commissioners expressed their deep sorrow over the tragic school shooting.
"We are deeply saddened by the news of another shooting in our community this afternoon," they said.
Jefferson County Sheriff Reggie Marinelli also expressed similar concern. "This is a tragic day in Jefferson County unlike any we've ever experienced. Our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless shooting today," Marinelli said.
Jefferson County was also the site of the 1999 Columbine school shooting, which killed 12 students and a teacher.
Another student, paralyzed from the waist down by the shooting, died in February, and the coroner ruled his death a homicide, according to The New York Times.
“I know we always say not again, and here we are,” Kelley said.
