The launch of Spotify Lossless Music is intended exclusively for Spotify Premium subscribers worldwide.
Initially, the feature will be available in select countries such as the US, UK, Germany, and Japan, before expanding to over 50 countries by October 2025.
Excitingly, this lossless feature comes at no additional cost to existing Premium users, contrary to previous rumors about a new pricing tier.
This provides significant added value to Premium subscriptions, allowing access to FLAC audio quality up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz.
Users can now enjoy richer, more detailed sound from Spotify's music catalog.
Spotify Lossless Music Launch and Global Availability
Spotify officially announced the launch of the Spotify HiFi lossless audio feature on its platform, which began on September 10, 2025.
The feature will continue to roll out gradually to more than 50 countries by October 2025.
Initially, Spotify lossless music is available in countries such as Australia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
"Lossless refers to when there's no change between what you deliver to a streaming service and what the listener hears," Jack Mason, Spotify Studios producer and engineer, said in an Instagram Reel.
"Without lossless, track files might get compressed in the encoding process, which might not lend to the best quality."
Spotify Lossless Music Cost and Accessibility
One of the biggest surprises of Spotify's lossless music launch was the lack of an additional fee.
Contrary to previous speculation about a "Supremium" or "Music Pro" pricing tier, the lossless feature is included free for all existing Spotify Premium subscribers.
This policy puts Spotify on par with competitors like Apple Music and Amazon Music, which already offer lossless audio at no extra cost.
This means users don't have to pay more to enjoy higher audio quality.
Spotify Lossless Music Audio Quality and Format
Spotify lossless music offers files in FLAC format up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz.
This quality is significantly higher than standard CD quality at 16-bit/44.1 kHz and users can now enjoy clearer and richer audio details from Spotify's music catalog.
However, this quality is still slightly below some competitors that offer files up to 24-bit/192 kHz.
With the ability to stream up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz, nearly every song on Spotify will unlock greater detail.
A clear 'Lossless' symbol will be displayed next to songs that support this feature.
How to Enable and Device Compatibility
To enable Spotify lossless music, Premium subscribers will receive a notification in their app once the feature is available.
Users can manually enable it via the Settings & Privacy menu, then Media Quality.
There, the Lossless option can be selected for streaming over Wi-Fi, mobile data, or downloads.
For the best listening experience, Spotify recommends streaming over Wi-Fi using wired headphones or speakers.
Non-Bluetooth connections, such as Spotify Connect, are also highly recommended to maintain optimal audio quality.
Many Spotify Connect-enabled devices from leading brands are already compatible, with support for Sonos and Amazon expected to follow soon.
