Starring Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates, the new season will continue the story of Madeline "Matty" Matlock on her quest for justice.

The second season will once again immerse viewers in the legal world of corruption and deception, centering on Matty's quest to uncover the truth behind her daughter's death from the opioid epidemic.

Developed by Jennie Snyder Urman, new episodes of Matlock Season 2 will premiere every Thursday at 9:00 PM ET/PT on CBS.

Paramount+ Essential subscribers will have the episodes available the following day, while Paramount+ Premium subscribers can watch them live on Thursday nights.

The season is expected to consist of 20 episodes.


Matty Matlock's Revenge Mission

The main character, Madeline "Matty" Matlock, played by Kathy Bates, is a wealthy retired attorney who decides to return to practice.

Her goal is to seek justice for the death of her daughter, Ellie, a victim of the opioid epidemic.

Matty poses as a widow named Madeline "Matty" Matlock and successfully lands a job at the law firm Jacobson Moore, which she believes is hiding crucial evidence that could save her daughter's life.

She goes undercover to infiltrate one of the country's most powerful law firms, Jacobson Moore.

The first season of the series has been filled with corruption, deception, and shocking revelations.

Matty's fight is not only for her daughter, but also to expose the corrupt system that harms so many.


Matlock Season 2: Schedule and How to Watch

Matlock Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, October 12, 2025, as a special screening.

Afterward, the series will return to its regular Thursday timeslot at 9:00 PM ET/PT on CBS.

The second episode of the season, titled "Another Matlock," is scheduled to air on Thursday, October 16.

For viewers who prefer the flexibility of streaming, new episodes will be available on Paramount+ the following day. Paramount+ Essential subscribers can enjoy the latest episodes the day after they air on television.

Meanwhile, Paramount+ Premium subscribers have the advantage of watching live on Thursday nights, similar to the CBS broadcast.

Spolier Alert! The Story Continuation from First Season

The second season of Matlock will pick up right from the first season's thrilling cliffhanger.

The previous season ended with Olympia Lawrence, a junior partner at Jacobson Moore, discovering incriminating Wellbrexa documents in a safe deposit box with Julian Markston, her ex-husband.

These documents are believed to be key in the cover-up case related to the opioid epidemic.

Furthermore, the first season also ended with the appearance of Joey Danza, a man claiming to be Ellie's ex-boyfriend and the father of Matty's grandson, Alfie.

This appearance creates a "delicious dilemma" for Matty, as hinted by executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman.

Matty will question the paternity of the man claiming to be Alfie's father.

Matty is also forced to confess to Olympia about his secret mission to uncover the Wellbrexa cover-up that led to his daughter's death.

Although initially refused, Olympia eventually agrees to help Matty uncover the truth.

 


The Stars of Matlock Season 2

Kathy Bates leads the cast of Matlock Season 2 as Madeline "Matty" Matlock, also known as Madeline Kingston.

Her strong and nuanced performance is a key draw for the series.

Bates brings depth to Matty's character, making her a complex and motivated figure.

In addition to Bates, the series also features Skye P. Marshall as Olympia Lawrence, a junior partner at Jacobson Moore who becomes Matty's boss.
