This is not the first AT&T Internet rate increase, but the third in a row in the past three years.
What really caused the hiking price of AT&T internet service?
What Makes AT&T Internet Service Cost Increase?
AT&T officially stated that increasing operational costs are the primary driver of the AT&T Internet service price increase.
The company needs to adjust rates to cover the increasing costs of operating and maintaining its network infrastructure.
Furthermore, this price increase is also expected to provide a financial cushion against costs arising from several major acquisitions.
AT&T recently acquired wireless spectrum from EchoStar and the Lumen consumer fiber optic business.
AT&T management affirmed its commitment to continuing to provide high-quality service to customers.
AT&T Internet Price Increase Details
Every AT&T Internet customer, whether using AT&T Fiber or AT&T Internet, will see a $5 increase on their monthly bill.
This price increase will begin in early December 2025.
However, there are several important exceptions that customers should be aware of.
New customers who have subscribed within the past year will not be subject to this price increase.
This policy aims to provide cost stability for customers who have just joined AT&T Internet services.
In addition, customers enrolled in the "Access from AT&T" program are also exempt from the rate increase.
How to Anticipate the Impact of the Price Increase?
Despite the price increase, AT&T offers several options for customers to anticipate its impact.
Customers can take advantage of discounts by signing up for AutoPay and paperless billing.
If customers sign up for AutoPay through their bank account, they can receive a $10 monthly discount.
Another option is to sign up for AutoPay using a debit card, which will provide a $5 monthly discount.
This discount will be applied to the first two billing periods after signup.
This $5 price increase marks the third consecutive year that AT&T has raised its home internet service rates.
Similar increases also occurred in November 2024 and several times in 2023.
AT&T did report a $300 million increase in operating expenses last quarter.
However, the company delivered impressive profits, generating net income of $4.9 billion for the three months and net income of $12.3 billion for the full year 2024.
