A deadly h2s leak incident rocked the Landman series Season 2 Episode 3, revealing hidden dangers in the oil fields that claimed lives and threatened the survival of M-Tex.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The drama series “Landman” Season 2 Episode 3, titled “Almost a Home,” highlighted a serious crisis in the oil field, including a deadly hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas leak.

The episode, which aired on November 30, 2025, depicted how this unseen danger can claim lives and have major consequences for the company.

The incident began when a group of wild boar hunters discovered mysteriously dead pigs near an abandoned oil well.

As they approached to take pictures, the hunters suddenly collapsed and died, becoming the first victims of the H2S gas leak.

This tragic event then drew the attention of Dale’s crew from M-Tex, who arrived to inspect the well.

They found the victims lying lifeless and immediately realized the serious danger, triggering panic and rescue efforts amidst the threat of toxic gas.

M-Tex Crew Exposure and Impact of the Incident

After receiving instructions to inspect the well, Dale’s crew, consisting of Boss, Ben, Jerrell, and Russ, arrived at the scene.

They discovered the bodies of the hunters and immediately realized something was amiss.

As they investigated, the wind suddenly shifted and pushed H2S gas toward them, triggering the alarms on their H2S warning devices.

Although most of the crew managed to escape, they experienced symptoms such as burning eyes, nausea, and severe headaches from gas exposure.

Jerrell, who was on top of the silo for further investigation, was not as fortunate.

He was trapped and eventually passed out from the effects of the gas.

Dale, wearing a hazmat suit, quickly rushed to Jerrell's rescue and put a gas mask on him before helicopter assistance arrived.

Jerrell was the only one to require an overnight hospital stay, while the other crew members suffered serious effects from the incident.

The Deadly Dangers of H2S Gas in Oil Fields

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas is a highly toxic and flammable chemical compound often found around oil fields, drilling rigs, and wells.

At low concentrations, this gas emits a distinctive rotten egg odor, but at high concentrations, H2S is odorless.

The odorless nature of H2S at lethal levels makes it a particularly dangerous threat, as victims are unaware of its presence until it is too late.

Exposure to H2S at high concentrations can cause difficulty breathing, organ damage, loss of consciousness, and even near-instant death.

This gas is also heavier than air, so it tends to accumulate in low areas or near the ground, increasing the risk to workers and anyone near the leak.

In this episode of “Landman,” the gas’s lethal nature is evident when the wild boar hunters are killed instantly without warning.

H2S Leak Incident in Real Life

The Examination reports that hydrogen sulfide "can be spread through fracking and water injection to push out more oil," a method discussed throughout Landman's second season.

Essentially, working in the oil industry can be extremely dangerous, and the outlet notes that hydrogen sulfide "sometimes kills oilfield workers whose jobs require them to be near tanks and wells."

Once hydrogen sulfide is released into the air, the hazardous substance can linger for up to "42 days, depending on the season," according to the ATSDR report.

In Texas, regulations became much stricter after a 1975 H₂S leak that resulted in nine deaths, The Examination reports.

However, that hasn't stopped further incidents claiming the lives of those working in the oil industry; in October 2019, a "deadly fog" of hydrogen sulfide killed a worker and his wife in Odessa, Texas, according to E&E News.
