Milly Alcock, who previously appeared briefly in the 2025 film "Superman," will now lead her own solo film.
Based on the comic book miniseries "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," the film will take audiences on Kara's challenging galactic journey.
Filming has already completed in England and Scotland.
Supergirl First Teaser Details
"Supergirl" is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026, marking its arrival as a key part of the DC Universe and will be screening in IMAX, promising an immersive cinematic experience for audiences.
A short teaser video was released on December 10, 2025, featuring Milly Alcock in the role of Supergirl.
In the clip, Kara is seen sitting at a bus stop before a spaceship lands in front of her.
Her appearance, wearing casual clothes like jeans and a jacket, without a superhero costume, indicates a new approach to the character.
The teaser also features scenes of Kara flying and a glimpse of the DCU's destroyed Krypton.
James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, confirmed that the full "Supergirl" trailer will be released on December 11, 2025.
Milly Alcock as the Brand New Kara Zor-El
Mily Alcock first appeared as Kara Zor-El in the 2025 film "Superman" (2025), released last July, albeit only in a brief appearance at the end of the film.
Alcock's casting received immediate praise from James Gunn, who called it "the best casting" he had ever seen.
The character of Kara Zor-El in this film will be portrayed as more "hardened" and jaded than previous interpretations, since witnessing the deaths of those around her have shaped her personality due to the planet Krypton destruction.
These painful experiences will be a crucial foundation for Supergirl's character development.
"Woman of Tomorrow" Comic Adaptation Plot
The "Supergirl" film plot will be adapted from the acclaimed comic book miniseries "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" (2021–22) by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.
The film's official synopsis reveals that Kara Zor-El will travel across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto.
However, her journey takes a turn when she meets a young woman named Ruthye Marye Knoll, which drags Kara into a "deadly mission of revenge."
During this mission, Kara is forced to team up with an unlikely friend, challenging her to confront her own origins.
The film will specifically explore the significant differences between Superman's upbringing on Earth and Supergirl's experience of profound loss and hardship on a destroyed Krypton.
Supergirl Cast and Production Team
In addition to Milly Alcock as Supergirl, the film will feature a talented cast.
Matthias Schoenaerts will play the main villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills, while Eve Ridley will play Ruthye Marye Knoll.
David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham will play Kara's parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze, respectively.
Jason Momoa is also confirmed to appear as Lobo, adding an exciting dimension to the DCU.
Ferdinand Kingsley will play Elias Knoll, and Ozu will be Krypto the Superdog.
Behind the scenes, the film is directed by Craig Gillespie, with a script written by Ana Nogueira, while James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-CEOs of DC Studios, serve as producers.
