Steven Spielberg's New Film 'Disclosure Day' Returns to the Alien Genre

Steven Spielberg's latest science fiction film is now officially known as "Disclosure Day."

Previously, this ambitious project had been referred to by several working titles, such as "The Dish" or "Disclosure," and was even frequently referred to by the media as "untitled film" to maintain its secrecy.

Before the teaser and official title were released, a mysterious marketing campaign captured public attention in December 2025.

Billboards with the provocative slogan "All Will Be Disclosed" appeared in strategic locations in major cities like New York and Los Angeles.

The billboards featured an inverted blue eye, seemingly peering through a keyhole, surrounded by a space shaped like a crested bird.

This visual symbolism added a layer of mystery surrounding "Disclosure Day," hinting at the theme of uncovering hidden truths.

"Disclosure Day" is officially scheduled for release in the United States on June 12, 2026, through Universal Pictures.

This release date is an adjustment from the original schedule of May 15, 2026.

This one-month shift was made to avoid stiff competition with other highly anticipated blockbusters, such as "Avengers: Doomsday" and "The Mandalorian and Grogu," ensuring Steven Spielberg's film receives full attention.

Behind the scenes, Steven Spielberg not only serves as director but also as the originator of the film's original story.

He collaborated with David Koepp, his longtime screenwriter behind "Jurassic Park" and "War of the Worlds," to translate his vision into a script.

Koepp himself revealed that Steven Spielberg was heavily involved, even writing a 50-page treatment before submitting it.

The "Disclosure Day" production team is bolstered by big names in the film industry.

Kristie Macosko Krieger is producing alongside Steven Spielberg, while cinematography is entrusted to Janusz Kamiński, known for his captivating work on "Schindler's List."

"Disclosure Day" follows the journey of a meteorologist, played by Emily Blunt, and a UFO whistleblower, played by Josh O'Connor. Both are determined to share the truth with the world, despite facing numerous obstacles.

The film will explore an alien invasion with a darker twist, while still maintaining Steven Spielberg's signature blend of grand spectacle and honest human emotion.

Josh O'Connor himself compared "Disclosure Day" to Steven Spielberg's "old-school" works, such as "E.T." and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," emphasizing the film's blend of epic scale and emotional depth.

Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor lead the cast, supported by caliber actors like Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, and Elizabeth Marvel, who plays a nun. The presence of these big names ensures a deep and captivating performance.

The "Disclosure Day" project was first announced in April 2024, with Steven Spielberg stating his intention to direct a UFO film based on his own original idea.

Filming then began in February 2025 and was successfully completed by the end of May 2025.
