The Fire Tragedy Details
The fire that claimed Dennis Hamlin's life broke out around 6:00 PM on Sunday night at their home on Blacksnake Road, northeast of Stanley.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find approximately 45% of the house engulfed in flames.Dennis Hamlin, 75, died Monday night from "catastrophic" injuries.
Although he managed to escape the burning house, his injuries were so severe that he could not be saved.
The fire took nearly two hours to extinguish due to the lack of water hydrants in the area, forcing firefighters to use fire trucks to transport water.
The house was completely destroyed by the intense fire.
The house that burned, a 3,724-square-foot property built in 2015, is known to be owned by race car driver Denny Hamlin's real estate company.
The home is owned by a company called Won One Real Estate that lists Denny Hamlin as its manager, according to local property tax records and business documents filed with the North Carolina Secretary of State's Office.
Denny Hamlin's Mother's Critical Condition
Mary Lou Hamlin, Dennis Hamlin's wife and Denny Hamlin's mother, also suffered serious injuries in the fire.
The 69-year-old woman was immediately rushed to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for intensive medical care.
Authorities confirmed that both of Denny Hamlin's parents escaped the blaze, but both suffered serious injuries.
Mary Lou remains in critical condition and is being actively treated by medical personnel.
