Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Marvel Studios' latest series, Wonder Man, is finally ready to greet fans on Disney+ starting January 27, 2026.

This highly anticipated series will come with eight episodes, offering a binge-worthy experience.

This announcement coincided with the release of the official trailer, which launched on January 1, 2026, providing a glimpse of the action and humor to be presented.

Before the groundbreaking official trailer, the first footage from the Wonder Man series was shown to the public via Disney+ video in October 2024.

Excitement peaked after additional footage, introduced by veteran actor Ben Kingsley, was shown during a Disney presentation in May 2025.

The Meta Story and Action Comedy Behind Wonder Man

Wonder Man centers on Simon Williams, an ambitious actor who discovers he has acquired superpowers.

The series features a compelling meta narrative, in which Simon Williams (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) auditions for the lead role in the superhero remake of "Wonder Man" within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

At the same time, he begins to realize that he has actually developed real superpowers, creating a unique and humorous storyline.

The series is described as a smart action comedy, blending thrilling superhero scenes with satirical commentary on Hollywood and the phenomenon of fame.

This approach is expected to be Marvel's response to the discussion of "superhero fatigue," emphasizing humor and self-reflection.

On his journey, Simon Williams will be accompanied by Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), a failed actor who appears to be a mentor to him.

In addition, the series will introduce the fictional director Von Kovak (Zlatko Burić), who is responsible for the "Wonder Man" remake, into the story.

Star-Studded Cast and Production Team

The Wonder Man series stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man.

He plays an aspiring actor who gains superpowers, including incredible strength and speed, and the ability to create massive explosions.

Ben Kingsley returns as Trevor Slattery, a failed actor previously known as the fake Mandarin in Iron Man 3 and reappearing in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Other cast members include Arian Moayed, who reprises his role as P. Cleary from the MCU.

Also appearing are X Mayo, Zlatko Burić as director Von Kovak, Olivia Thirlby, and Byron Bowers as DeMarr Davis, aka Doorman.

Demetrius Grosse will also play Eric Williams, Simon's brother, known as the Grim Reaper in the comics, and Ed Harris will play Neal Saroyan, Simon Williams' agent who possesses mind-controlling powers in the comics.

Behind the scenes, the series was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest.

Andrew Guest serves as showrunner and head writer, while Destin Daniel Cretton, who made his mark on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, directed the first two episodes and serves as executive producer.

Other directors involved include Stella Meghie, James Ponsoldt, and Tiffany Johnson, promising a diverse visual and narrative quality.

MCU Connections and Expectations for the Future of Wonder Man

The Wonder Man series will be an integral part of Phase Six of the MCU and will be released under the "Marvel Spotlight" banner.

This indicates that while it may have a more standalone story, the series remains connected to the continuity of the films in the MCU franchise.

The series is expected to introduce several important new characters to the MCU franchise, especially in the lead-up to major films like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.

While Marvel has yet to officially confirm Simon Williams' future in the wider MCU, speculation regarding his possible connection to Avengers: Doomsday continues to circulate among fans.

The series will also provide an in-depth look at how the MCU's film industry operates, with Simon Williams initially portrayed as a superpowered stuntman in Hollywood.
