Liputan6.com, Jakarta - United States President Donald Trump has threatened a lawsuit against comedian and host Trevor Noah.

Trump's anger was sparked by a joke Noah told at the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 2, 2026, linking Trump's name to the late convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

This incident happened days after the Department of Justice released thousands of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, which included numerous references to Trump and other prominent figures.

Noah's joke quickly went viral and sparked a strong reaction from Donald Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Trevor Noah's Grammy Awards Joke

Donald Trump was offended by a joke delivered by Trevor Noah while hosting the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The moment happened after singer Billie Eilish won Song of the Year where Noah then made a statement indirectly linking Trump to Jeffrey Epstein by saying, "It's the a Grammy that every artist wants – almost as much as Trump wants Greenland, which makes sense because Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton”.

This joke drew attention because it was delivered shortly after the Department of Justice released a large number of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.

The documents contained thousands of mentions of Donald Trump, as well as the names of other prominent individuals, further fueling public discussion about Epstein's social circle.

Donald Trump's Strong Reaction to Truth Social

It didn't take long for Donald Trump to respond to Trevor Noah's joke with furious outrage on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Trump called Noah a "total loser" and a "poor, pathetic, talentless dope of an M.C.."

The US president explicitly threatened to send his lawyers to sue Noah for a substantial amount of money, emphasizing that the joke was a "false and defamatory statement" linking him to Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump denied ever visiting Epstein's island or any nearby establishments, though he stated that he could not speak for former President Bill Clinton.

In his post, Trump wrote, “Noah said, INCORRECTLY about me, that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. WRONG!!!

Furthermore, Trump criticized the Grammy Awards ceremony as a whole, calling it "the worst" and "virtually unwatchable."

Status of Donald Trump's Legal Threats

Trump, in his post, appeared to celebrate the ending of the network’s partnership with the music awards.

“The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable!” he wrote. “CBS is lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer.”

To date, Donald Trump's threats of legal action against Trevor Noah remain limited to public statements and there has been no official confirmation regarding the lawsuit.

Trevor Noah's representatives have not yet responded directly to the lawsuit threat.
