This arrest follows an extensive investigation by authorities in New Castle County.

The tragic incident began when police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in late December 2025 at the Stevensons' home, where Linda Stevenson was found dead and led to William Stevenson's arrest.
Stevenson, now 77, was arrested on Monday, February 2, 2026, after a grand jury issued a formal indictment.
He is currently being held without bail.

On December 28, 2025, New Castle County police officers responded to an emergency call regarding a domestic dispute at the residence of William and Linda Stevenson in the Oak Hill neighborhood of Delaware.
Upon arrival, officers found 64-year-old Linda Stevenson unresponsive in the living room.
Unfortunately, life-saving efforts were unsuccessful, and Linda Stevenson was pronounced dead at the scene.
In response to the incident, the New Castle County Police Department's Criminal Investigation Unit, along with the Delaware Department of Justice, immediately launched an extensive investigation that lasted several weeks.
William Stevenson was arrested on Monday, February 2, 2026, with one count of first-degree murder.
Following his arrest, Stevenson was held at Howard Young Correctional Institution for failing to post $500,000 bail.
