Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Speculation about a possible sequel to the 2000 Christmas classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, has reignited after actress Taylor Momsen commented.
Momsen, best known for her role as Cindy Lou Who, stated in early February 2026 that she had not heard of any concrete plans for a sequel starring Jim Carrey.

Momsen made this statement to the New York Post while attending Steven Tyler's 7th Annual Grammy viewing party for Jam for Janie.
“Not that I know of,” she said to the outlet. Momsen also suggested that revisiting the project might not be necessary, adding, “Some things don’t touch. Timeless classic. It’s lasted this long.”
Even so, she has not completely ruled out the possibility for the sequel movie.

Last November, after reuniting with Carrey, 64, at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Momsen, 32, admitted that a collaboration again wasn't out of the question.
“When Jim Carrey asks you to do something, you pay attention so we’ll see,” she told Entertainment Tonight at the time. Reflecting on their reunion, she added, “So crazy,” noting that she hadn’t seen Carrey in 25 years
While rumors of a Grinch sequel continue to swirl, Momsen remains focused on her music career.
In December, she and her band, The Pretty Reckless, re-recorded the song “Where Are You Christmas?” to mark the film’s 25th anniversary—a significant moment for the artist, who originally performed the song as a child.
The History of Rumors and Jim Carrey's Statement
Rumors about The Grinch sequel movie have been circulating since 2023, fueled by a fake "announcement" circulating online, claimed that Universal Studios was developing a sequel with Jim Carrey, but Universal never officially confirmed it.
Jim Carrey himself, through his representatives in 2023, dismissed the reports, asserting that the rumors of his return as the Grinch were false.
This denial aligns with Carrey's previous stance of not being interested in reprising his previous roles, especially those that require a significant commitment of time, energy, and physical discomfort.

The legendary actor once described the process of portraying The Grinch as "excruciating," noting that the character's makeup took nearly eight hours to apply.
This experience was one of the main reasons why he refuse to reprise the role.
In 2022, while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Jim Carrey even announced his intention to retire from acting.
Although he added that he might return if a script came along that was "really important for people to see," this demonstrates his prudence in choosing projects.
