Bud Cort passed away at the age of 77 after battling a long illness, confirmed by his longtime friend, Dorian Hannaway, who also shared the news with the public.

Born Walter Edward Cox on March 29, 1948, in Rye, New York, Bud Cort later adopted his stage name to avoid confusion with actor Wally Cox.

Bud Cort's career took off after being discovered by legendary director Robert Altman, who gave him a small role in the 1970 film "M*A*S*H," which was followed by a starring role in "Brewster McCloud" that same year.
However, his most enduring and iconic role was as Harold in the 1971 film "Harold and Maude," which quickly became a cult classic.
The role earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical and a BAFTA nomination for Most Promising Newcomer.
