Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Sony PlayStation has confirmed the surprising decision to close Bluepoint Games, a studio renowned for its high-quality remakes and remasters.

The closure will take effect in March 2026, marking the end of one of the industry's most respected game development studios.

This strategic move also follows the cancellation of the God of War live-service game project previously in development by Bluepoint Games.

The closure of Bluepoint Games is expected to impact approximately 70 employees working at the studio.

“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community,” a PlayStation spokesperson told Bloomberg. “We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship."

Reasons Behind Studio Closure

Sony Interactive Entertainment's decision to close Bluepoint Games is the result of a "recent business review" conducted by the company.

A Sony spokesperson stated that a thorough evaluation of the studio's operations and projects underpinned this move.

The review likely considered efficiency, profitability, and alignment with PlayStation's long-term vision.

One of the primary drivers for the studio's closure was the cancellation of Bluepoint Games' ongoing God of War live-service game project.

This project, which was supposed to be one of PlayStation's major initiatives in the live-service gaming space, was discontinued in January 2025.

Bluepoint Games' closure will have a significant impact on its employees, estimated that approximately 70 individuals will be laid off as a result of this decision.

Despite this difficult decision, PlayStation continues to express its deep appreciation for Bluepoint Games' contributions.

A Sony spokesperson stated, "Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team, and their technical expertise has delivered incredible experiences to the PlayStation community. We are grateful for their passion, creativity, and expertise."
