Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The 2026 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) finale in London witnessed the silent dominance of One Battle After Another Movie.

The prestigious ceremony took place on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the Royal Festival Hall.

Hosted by Alan Cumming, the ceremony recognized the world's best filmmakers.

"One Battle After Another Movie" won six awards, making it the biggest winner of the year.

The film is a dark comedy that tells the story of a revolutionary's struggle to protect his daughter from a ruthless military officer.

Director Paul Thomas Anderson dedicated his award to his late producer/assistant director Adam Somner and made a strong statement about the quality of filmmaking in the industry today.

"One Battle After Another Movie" solidified its position as the best by winning the Best Film award.

Paul Thomas Anderson was also named Best Director for his brilliant work.In addition to the main categories, the film also won Best Adapted Screenplay, recognizing the strength of its narrative.

Sean Penn also shone, taking home the Best Supporting Actor award for his captivating performance.

The film's visual quality was also recognized with the Best Cinematography award.

The production of "One Battle After Another Movie" also received recognition, winning the Best Editing award.

In his acceptance speech, Paul Thomas Anderson expressed his gratitude to Adam Somner, the producer/assistant director who passed away during production.

He also highlighted that it had been a "very good year" for the film industry.

Surprises and Rising Stars at BAFTAs 2026

Amidst the dominance of "One Battle After Another Movie," several other names also stole the spotlight at BAFTAs 2026.

One of the biggest surprises came in the Best Leading Actor category, won by Robert Aramayo for his role in "I Swear."

Aramayo's win surprised many, as he beat out big names like Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio.

He was also awarded the EE Rising Star award.

Meanwhile, Jessie Buckley won Best Leading Actress for her performance as Agnes in "Hamnet."

Buckley became the first Irish performer to win a lead actress award at BAFTAs, making history.

"Hamnet" itself was also named Outstanding British Film.Wunmi Mosaku won Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Sinners."

Ryan Coogler also received recognition for Best Original Screenplay for "Sinners," which also won Best Original Music.

Awards for Best International and Technical Work

BAFTA 2026 not only honors English-language films but also recognizes international works.

The film "Sentimental Value" won the Film Not in the English Language category, demonstrating the diversity and quality of global cinema recognized by BAFTA.

The award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer was awarded to Akinola Davies Jr. and Wale Davies for "My Father's Shadow."

On the technical side, "Frankenstein" dominated, winning the awards for Costume Design, Makeup & Hair, and Production Design.

"F1" won Best Sound, while "Avatar: Fire and Ash" impressed the jury with Best Special Visual Effects.

The documentary "Mr. Nobody Against Putin" and the animated film "Zootropolis 2" also took home awards in their respective categories.

The short film "This Is Endometriosis" and the animated short "Two Black Boys in Paradise" rounded out the winners in the British short film category.
