Pre-orders for the MacBook Air M5 opened on March 4, 2026, according to Apple official website.
General availability in stores and shipping to customers will begin on March 11, 2026, in 33 countries.
“The new MacBook Air with M5 brings incredible performance and even more capability to the world’s most popular laptop,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.
Revolutionary Apple M5 Chip Performance
At the core of the MacBook Air M5 is the revolutionary Apple M5 chip, built using third-generation 3nm technology, features a 10-core CPU, consisting of 4 'super cores' and 6 'efficiency cores,' which Apple claims is the world's fastest single-threaded core.
Furthermore, the up to 10-core GPU is equipped with a Neural Accelerator in each core, dramatically improving the performance of AI tasks—up to 4x faster than the MacBook Air M4 and 9.5x faster than the MacBook Air M1.
This capability is particularly relevant for applications requiring intensive AI processing, such as rendering 3D models and running Large Language Models (LLM) locally.
The M5 chip also features a 16-core Neural Engine and 28 billion transistors, ensuring exceptional performance across a wide range of workloads.
Unified memory bandwidth reaches 153GB/s, a 28% increase over the M4, contributing to smoother multitasking and faster application launches.
Elegant Design and Stunning Liquid Retina Display
The MacBook Air M5 retains its signature slim and lightweight design, available in four attractive colors: Sky Blue, Silver, Starlight, and Midnight.
The physical design remains consistent with the previous generation, with the 13-inch model measuring 30.41 x 21.5 x 1.13 cm and weighing 1.23 kg, while the 15-inch model measures 34.04 x 23.76 x 1.15 cm and weighs 1.51 kg.
Both models feature a stunning Liquid Retina display.
The 13-inch model has a resolution of 2560 x 1664 pixels, while the 15-inch model comes with a resolution of 2880 x 1864 pixels.
The screen brightness reaches 500 nits with a 60Hz refresh rate.
Storage, Connectivity, Battery, and Other Features
One of the most significant improvements to the MacBook Air M5 is the base storage capacity, which now starts at 512GB SSD, double the base capacity of the previous generation.
Users also have the option to configure storage up to 1TB, 2TB, or even 4TB.
Not only is the capacity improved, but the SSD speed is also improved, offering up to 2x faster read/write performance than the previous generation.
For connectivity, the MacBook Air M5 is equipped with Apple's new N1 wireless chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, ensuring faster and more stable connections.
The device also features two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a MagSafe 3 charging port, and a headphone jack.
The MacBook Air M5 offers impressive battery life, capable of up to 18 hours of use, making it an ideal companion for all-day productivity.
The device comes with a 40W charging adapter and supports fast charging up to 70W.
Other features that complement the MacBook Air M5 include a 12MP Center Stage camera for high-quality video calls, as well as the macOS 26 Tahoe operating system that brings an updated design with a Liquid Glass interface, Apple Intelligence integration, and new features that improve productivity.
