Global Launch Time and Availability on Various Platforms
Slay the Spire 2 makes its Early Access debut with a simultaneous global launch on Steam on March 5, 2026.
The launch time is adjusted according to each time zone, allowing players worldwide to enjoy the game immediately.
During the Early Access period, the game is only available for PC, including Windows, macOS, and Linux/SteamOS operating systems.
The good news is that Slay the Spire 2 has also been confirmed as "Steam Deck Ready" from day one, ensuring an optimal gaming experience on portable devices.
Mega Crit has announced plans to release consoles like PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2 to arrive alongside the full launch of version 1.0 in 2027.
Gameplay Features and New Characters
As a roguelike deck-building game, Slay the Spire 2 retains the essence that made its predecessor beloved, but with many significant improvements.
One of the biggest additions is an online co-op mode that supports up to four players, complete with special multiplayer cards and powerful team synergies.
The game features a total of five playable characters in Early Access.
Three favorite characters from the first game, Ironclad, Silent, and Defect, return with updated powers and skills, while two new characters, Necrobinder and Regent, are ready to provide a unique gaming experience.
Necrobinder features a giant skeletal hand companion named Osty, who relies on magic that targets enemy souls.
Meanwhile, Regent has the unique ability to create minions from cards and collect stars in battle to increase his attack power, adding strategic depth to the game.
Mega Crit also rebuilt Slay the Spire 2 from the ground up using the Godot engine, having switched from Unity in 2023.
It also introduces a variety of new cards, relics, potions, and mechanics like "Afflictions" and "Ancients" without microtransactions.
Early Access Program and Story Background
The Early Access program for Slay the Spire 2 is expected to last one to two years.
Although still in the early stages of development, this Early Access version is claimed to already contain more content than the original game when it first released.
Mega Crit is committed to continuing to add new content, including "Alternate Acts," throughout the Early Access period.
The developers will also actively listen to community feedback through the Discord server and other social media platforms to ensure the game's development meets players' expectations.
Narratively, Slay the Spire 2 is set 1,000 years after the events of the first game.
The once dormant Spire has reopened, becoming a far more dangerous and hungry entity than ever, inviting players to face new challenges.
The game's initial reception has been extremely positive, with over 177,000 concurrent players on Steam on its first day of Early Access.
