Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The world of rock music is once again in mourning with the passing of Tommy DeCarlo, lead vocalist of the legendary band Boston. DeCarlo passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the age of 60.

DeCarlo's death was confirmed by his family via a social media post. He passed away after a courageous battle with brain cancer. 

DeCarlo's family, including his wife Annie and children Talia and Tommy Jr., shared the sad news on the same day. They expressed their deep sense of loss at the loss of a beloved figure.

Tommy DeCarlo's Death and Fight Against Cancer

Tommy DeCarlo was diagnosed with brain cancer in September 2025. Since then, he has endured a difficult battle against this deadly disease. His family supported him with incredible strength and courage until the end.

The DeCarlo family announced the sad news on Monday, March 9, 2026, via posts on Instagram and Facebook.

DeCarlo's children, Annie, Talia and Tommy Jr., said in posts on his Facebook and Instagram pages that their father, who had been struggling for months with brain cancer, died Monday. They said, “He fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end.” He was 60.

His wife, Annie, along with their children, Talia and Tommy Jr., wrote touching messages about their father's passing.

Tommy DeCarlo's Journey: From Fan to Boston Frontman

Tommy DeCarlo's story of becoming the frontman for the band Boston is one of the most inspiring in music history. He was a lifelong Boston fan for three decades before joining the band. At the time, DeCarlo was working as a credit manager at Home Depot in Charlotte, North Carolina.

A turning point in his career came after the death of Boston's original frontman, Brad Delp, in 2007. DeCarlo posted covers of Boston songs and tribute songs to Delp on his MySpace page. Boston founder Tom Scholz was impressed by DeCarlo's uncanny vocal similarity to Delp's.

Scholz then invited DeCarlo to perform at a Delp tribute concert, which marked the beginning of his journey with the band. In 2007, DeCarlo officially joined Boston as lead vocalist. He toured with the band for nearly two decades.

Tommy DeCarlo's Contributions

During his time with Boston, Tommy DeCarlo made significant contribution to Boston's 2013 album, "Life, Love & Hope." DeCarlo provided vocals on the title track and three other songs on the album, showcasing his undeniable talent.

In addition to his work with Boston, DeCarlo is also active in other musical projects. He formed the band DECARLO with his son, Tommy DeCarlo Jr., in 2012. The band released their debut album, "Lightning Strikes Twice," in 2020.

DeCarlo also has a prolific solo career, having released two albums as a solo artist. In November 2021, he recorded and released an audiobook titled "Unlikely Rockstar – The Tommy DeCarlo Story." The audiobook chronicles his life up to his first appearance with Boston in 2007, providing in-depth insight into his life story.
