The incident resulted in two individuals sustaining serious injuries and prompted a swift response from law enforcement, leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. local time, creating chaos on one of the city's busy thoroughfares.

The scene was located between River Street and Pleasant Street Extension, an area known for heavy traffic.

The two seriously injured victims are currently receiving intensive care at a Boston hospital, while the shooter, identified as Tyler Brown, was subdued and is currently in custody.

Perpetrator Identity

The perpetrator of the Memorial Drive shooting in Cambridge has been identified as Tyler Brown, a 46-year-old man from Boston.

Brown allegedly fired between 50 and 60 shots from his assault rifle, creating panic in the street.

Witnesses reported that Brown was seen walking in the middle of the street shooting and brandishing the rifle "erratically" at passing vehicles.

Before this tragic incident, Boston Police had warned Cambridge officials that Brown might be in the area and in possession of a rifle.

Brown was on parole and had a history of violent behavior known to Boston Police.

Approximately an hour before the shooting, at 12:30 a.m., police officers attempted to conduct a welfare check at his home in Dorchester after his parole officer reported a suicidal statement from Brown.

Victims and Medical Treatment

Two men were injured in the Cambridge shooting, both in separate cars at the time of the incident.

Both victims suffered life-threatening injuries, indicating the severity of the attack.

One of the victims was identified as the driver of the MBTA van, The Ride, a transportation service for individuals with disabilities.

Following the incident, officers at the scene immediately administered first aid to Brown and the two victims before they were rushed to a hospital in Boston.

Rapid Response and Arrest of the Shooter

Cambridge Police received a 911 call from Boston Police regarding Brown, who was believed to be in possession of a rifle, in the area.

When Massachusetts State Police arrived on the scene, they immediately encountered an active shooter situation.

In attempting to subdue the shooter, Brown was shot by a Massachusetts State Police officer and a civilian, a former Marine with a permit to carry a firearm.

The shooter was shot several times in the extremities and eventually collapsed.

Officers administered first aid to Brown before he was transported to the hospital.

Brown is currently in custody at the hospital and is expected to be charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, as well as related firearms charges.

Impact and Further Investigation

The shooting incident on Memorial Drive in Cambridge caused significant damage to the surrounding area.

At least a dozen vehicles were reportedly hit by gunfire, including a United States Postal Service truck.

Memorial Drive was completely closed to traffic throughout the afternoon following the shooting, causing significant disruption for motorists.

As a precaution, several Cambridge schools were also placed on lockdown, although this was later lifted after the situation was deemed under control.

Cambridge Police issued a citywide alert at 2:04 p.m., confirming that the scene was an active crime scene but that there was no ongoing danger to the public.

Witnesses described the horror of the incident, with one person hearing at least 15 gunshots and "running for his life," while another saw the perpetrator screaming in the street.
