Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Honda is recalling nearly 60,000 vehicles due to a problem with the rearview camera, as reported by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).

This defect can cause distorted or even no image to appear, increasing the risk of accidents while driving.

This recall specifically affects 59,887 Honda vehicles.

This issue was identified in several popular Honda and Acura models built on General Motors' Ultium platform.

An investigation into this issue has been ongoing since May 2024 following a warranty claim in the United States.

Owners of affected vehicles will receive free repairs.

Official notifications to owners of affected vehicles will begin mailing in July 2026.

Vehicle Models Affected by the Honda Recall

This recall affects several Honda and Acura electric vehicle models.

The models included in the recall are the 2024-2026 Honda Prologue and the 2024 Acura ZDX.

More specifically, the number of affected vehicles includes 33,464 2024 Honda Prologues, 10,735 2025 Honda Prologues, and 15,688 2024 Acura ZDXs.

The total number of recalled vehicles is 59,887.

These models are similar in that they are built on General Motors' Ultium platform.

Owners can check the status of their vehicles through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website or contact Honda customer service.

Causes of Rearview Camera Issues

The primary symptom of this issue is that the rearview camera may display a distorted or completely blank image.

This significantly increases the risk of an accident because the driver loses critical visibility when reversing.

The cause of this defect is an improperly sealed camera housing.

Improper adhesive allows moisture to penetrate the camera assembly, which then causes corrosion of internal components.

The root of this manufacturing issue is due to improper pretreatment of the camera housing bonding surface during the production process.

Specifically, improper plasma irradiation of the bonding surface by the supplier disrupts a portion of the bonding surface through chemical changes, thereby reducing the adhesive strength.

American Honda Motor began investigating this issue in May 2024 after receiving warranty claims in the US market.

Honda worked with General Motors through May 2026 and identified a total of 2,411 warranty claims related to this issue.

Solution and Owner Notification

To address this issue, owners of affected vehicles will receive a free rearview camera replacement at a Honda dealership.

This is part of Honda's commitment to ensuring the safety of its customers.

Official notification letters to owners of affected vehicles will begin mailing on July 6, 2026.

Honda has corrected this issue in production since June 9, 2025, meaning vehicles manufactured after that date should not experience the same defect.

Owners can verify whether their vehicles are affected by using the VIN lookup tool on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website or by contacting Honda customer service at 888-234-2138.

The NHTSA ID number for this recall is 26V306000.
