Liputan6.com, Jakarta - CD Projekt Red (CDPR) officially announced the third expansion for their iconic game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled Songs of the Past.
The announcement was made on May 27, 2026, ahead of the originally planned schedule.

The expansion is scheduled for release in 2027 and will bring back Geralt of Rivia in a thrilling new adventure.
The decision to announce was caused by a leak via CD Projekt's own Red Launcher, forcing the studio to reveal details early.
Originally, CDPR planned to make this big reveal during a "REDstreams" livestream scheduled for May 28, 2026, coinciding with the 10th anniversary celebration of the Blood and Wine DLC.
However, the widespread circulation of screenshots of "Songs of the Past" forced them to act quickly.

Sudden Announcement and Background
The announcement of Songs of the Past came as a surprise to many, although rumors of a third expansion for The Witcher 3 had been circulating since mid-2025.
Analyst reports even indicated a possible 2026 release.
CD Projekt S.A. also filed a trademark for "Songs of the Past" with the EUIPO on May 27, 2026, strongly hinting at an upcoming announcement.
This expansion marks the return of Geralt of Rivia to the battlefield, 12 years after the main game's release in 2015.
The previous two DLCs, Hearts of Stone, were released in October 2015, and Blood and Wine followed in 2016.
The arrival of this new expansion demonstrates CDPR's commitment to continuing to expand the world of The Witcher.
CD Projekt Red stated that further details regarding Songs of the Past will be released in late summer 2026.
Expansion and Gameplay Details
Songs of the Past will continue to feature Geralt of Rivia as the main protagonist, allowing players to once again experience the adventures of the legendary monster hunter.
The expansion's story content was developed in collaboration with Polish development studio Fool's Theory.
Fool's Theory is a team of industry veterans who previously worked on The Witcher 3.
The studio is also currently working on a remake of the first Witcher game, demonstrating their deep experience with the franchise.
The expansion will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2027.
However, no information was available regarding a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 version at the time of the announcement.
This indicates a focus on next-gen platforms for an optimal gaming experience.
System Requirements and Future Implications
CD Projekt Red has changed the minimum system requirements for this new content, indicating that the game will feature improved visuals than before.
The expansion will only run on Windows 11 and requires installation on an SSD for best performance.
Other hardware requirements include a Ryzen 5 2600 or Core i5-8400 processor, and a GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB graphics card.
The DLC is estimated to be around 70GB, indicating a significant scale of content.
The arrival of Songs of the Past raises questions about the continuation of The Witcher 4, which has been quiet since the Unreal Engine 5 tech demo last year.
Analysts previously predicted a release for The Witcher 4 in Q4 2027, but the release of this expansion in the same year may delay that schedule.
Meanwhile, CD Projekt has ruled out further DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, with Cyberpunk 2 not expected to release until at least 2030.
