Modern Warfare 4 will be the fourth entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare subseries and the 23rd installment in the Call of Duty series.
The game's arrival also brings significant changes to release platforms, as Modern Warfare 4 will be the first Call of Duty title to be released exclusively for ninth-generation consoles.
This means PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will no longer be part of the game's release roadmap.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Release Details
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch globally on October 23, 2026, bringing significant innovations to the gameplay experience.
The game will be available for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Battle.net, Xbox on PC, and Steam.
One of the most striking changes is its exclusivity to ninth-generation consoles, making Modern Warfare 4 the first Call of Duty title not released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
It also marks a new era for the Call of Duty series in terms of platforms.
Interestingly, Call of Duty will also return to Nintendo platforms via the Nintendo Switch 2, after an absence of over a decade.
The Switch 2 version is being developed by Infinity Ward in collaboration with Digital Legends.
Game Modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and DMZ
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 offers three main, content-rich game modes: Campaign (Single Player), Multiplayer, and DMZ.
Campaign Mode continues the story from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023), where Captain Price is now a fugitive.
The narrative centers on the conflict between North and South Korea, with players controlling Private Park, a young South Korean soldier.
Missions will take players to global locations such as trenches in Korea, battles in New York, chases in Paris, and night raids in Mumbai.
Multiplayer mode promises realistic and precise combat with fluid movement and improved controls.
There will be 12 new core 6v6 maps at launch, as well as large-scale maps for vehicle and infantry combat.
Classic modes like "Gunfight" and "Big War" also return, along with the new "Kill Block" map with a dynamic layout featuring over 500 different configurations.
DMZ mode, returning from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, is described as the definitive extraction experience.
Players operate behind enemy lines, making strategic decisions about objectives, what items to secure, and when to exit.
