Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Danish national team midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered another medical incident on the pitch on Saturday, June 7, 2026.

The 34-year-old collapsed during an international friendly match against Ukraine at Nature Energy Park in Odense, Denmark.

The Danish Football Association (DBU) confirmed that Eriksen is now conscious and "in good condition considering the circumstances."

The incident happened in the 65th minute of the match, when Eriksen was seen clutching his chest with both hands before collapsing to the ground.

Medical staff immediately rushed to provide medical assistance, while players from both teams formed a circle around him.

The match, with Denmark leading 2-1, was immediately halted after the incident.

Minutes later, the Danish federation sent a post on X saying Eriksen was "conscious and, under the circumstances, doing well."

Christian Eriksen Recent Condition

Danish national team doctor Morten Boesen explained that Eriksen was briefly unconscious but quickly recovered and was able to communicate.

In a fuller statement posted 10 minutes later, Denmark team physician Morten Boesen said: "Christian is doing well and left the field himself. As I see it, the pacemaker is beating as it should."

After receiving treatment on the pitch, Eriksen was able to walk independently to an ambulance.

He was then taken to a hospital in Odense for further examination to determine the exact cause of the incident.

"Now he needs to be examined further in the hospital to find out what caused the incident. We are in constant contact with him and the doctors at the hospital. But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to greet all the players and say that he was OK."

Previous Similar Incident

This is not Eriksen's first heart attack.

He previously suffered a heart attack while playing for his country in their opening Euro 2020 match against Finland in Copenhagen in 2021.

Following the incident, Eriksen was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), a medical device that helps restart the heartbeat after a heart attack.

This ICD has allowed him to continue his professional career at both club and international level.

Although Denmark and Ukraine failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, this friendly is a crucial part of their preparation for future international events.

Eriksen's current club, Wolfsburg, along with former clubs Tottenham and Manchester United, have issued statements wishing the midfielder a speedy recovery.

Eriksen himself has sent his best wishes to his teammates, conveying that he is doing well.

Eriksen resumed his professional playing career 259 days later after having a pacemaker implanted in 2021.

He played for Brentford and Manchester United before joining German club Wolfsburg in 2025, where he signed a contract until the end of the 2026-27 season.
