This software update is scheduled for a public release in the fall of 2026, most likely around mid-September, with September 14, 2026, being the most likely date based on Apple's previous release patterns.

A developer beta version of iOS 27 was made available shortly after the WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8, 2026, while a public beta version will be released in July 2026.
iOS 27 will be supported on all iPhone models running iOS 26, from the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd generation) onward.
However, some more advanced Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features will require a newer device, such as the iPhone 16 or later, the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or a device with the A17 Pro/M1 chip or later.

AI Integration in the Siri Digital Assistant
One of the main focuses of iOS 27 is the deep integration of AI into the Siri digital assistant, now known as Siri AI.
Siri AI will be more intelligent and knowledgeable, capable of performing actions across apps like Messages, Music, and Reminders.
The assistant can answer questions related to content on the user's screen, leverage personal context to search across apps, and retrieve up-to-date information from the web.
Siri AI capabilities also include understanding the user's personal context from messages, emails, and photos.
Siri AI will feature a more natural and expressive voice, with controls to adjust speed and expressiveness on compatible devices.
Additionally, Siri AI will have a dedicated app that collects all previous conversations and requests in one place, functioning like an AI chatbot.
Apple Intelligence technology will expand AI features across core Apple apps, including Safari, Photos, Messages, Mail, Calendar, Home, and Shortcuts, adding smarter suggestions, automation, image creation, and contextual help.
Faster App Launches and Improvements
Improved performance and responsiveness are also highlighted in iOS 27.
Apps will launch 30% faster, while AirDrop transfers are claimed to be 80% faster.
File transfers to external storage will be 5x faster, and there are responsiveness and speed improvements across the platform, including smoother animations.
These optimizations also include older iPhones running iOS 27, which will be more responsive thanks to the CPU scheduling feature.
In terms of visuals and customization, iOS 27 brings improvements to Liquid Glass, including a slider for adjusting transparency and improved icons for sharper appearance with an additional refractive layer.
Other Significant Feature Improvements
Various other apps and features also receive significant updates.
The Photos app now features new AI editing features, including an improved "Clean Up" tool from iOS 18, an "Extend" tool for expanding photos beyond their existing frame using generative AI, and "Reframe" for changing the perspective of a photo.
iCloud Shared Albums now supports sharing with Android and Windows users.
The Passwords app can automatically change weak or compromised passwords.
Safari will organize tabs by topic, monitor webpage changes, and even create extensions from natural language descriptions.
The Messages, Mail, and Calendar apps will be able to understand context, suggest actions, and create events from simple descriptions.
The Health app adds more advanced cycle tracking and perimenopause/menopause education.
AirPods get a Custom EQ feature, while Apple Maps adds an improved Flyover feature with richer aerial imagery.
Shortcuts gets AI enhancements, allowing users to type in descriptions to generate relevant shortcuts.
Image Playground gets an update with more styles, including photorealistic styles, and touch/voice-based controls for editing generated images, even allowing for Lock Screen wallpapers and Contact Posters.
Parental Controls are also improved on Apple child accounts, including more granular screen time controls.
