Liputan6.com, Jakarta Director Jon M. Chu is set to direct the live-action Hot Wheels movie after completing the musical project Wicked: Part One.
The Hot Wheels movie is a collaboration between Warner Bros. and toy company Mattel, which will bring an array of iconic cars to life in exciting, high-speed action.

The movie is part of Mattel's major expansion into cinema, following the incredible success of Barbie (2023), which grossed more than US$1.44 billion at the global box office.

Although details of the storyline have not been revealed, the project is already attracting attention as it will be written by Juel Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier, the creative duo behind Creed II and They Cloned Tyrone.
Production house
Production will be handled by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot production house and Chu's company, Electric Somewhere.
Jon M. Chu is known for several popular films, including Crazy Rich Asians and In the Heights.
Most recently, he directed Wicked: Part One, which grossed more than US$700 million and was nominated for 10 Academy Awards.

Showing in November
The second part of the musical movie, Wicked: For Good, is scheduled to air in November.
Apart from Hot Wheels, Chu is also busy with various other projects, including a Play-Doh animated film, a biopic about Britney Spears, an adaptation of Dr. Seuss' children's book Oh, the Places You'll Go, and a big-screen version of the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
