Liputan6.com, Jakarta Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has once again spoken out about a dark period in his career, particularly being dropped from the Fantastic Beasts franchise by Warner Bros.

In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph, Depp expressed his disappointment when Warner Bros. asked him to step down from the role of Gellert Grindelwald, just a day after he lost his defamation lawsuit against The Sun tabloid.

"They said I should back out, but all I felt at the time was anger," Depp said. "I thought, 'Go ahead. I've been hurt too many times. You can't hurt me more than this'," said Johnny Depp.

Despite a day of filming, Depp was officially dropped from Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, and his role was replaced by Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen.

Johnny Depp admitted that this period was one of the lowest points in his life.

She felt shunned by the industry and painfully labeled.

"I was shunned, sidelined, canceled, you name it. But I chose to stay," Depp said.

Depp's journey in the legal realm did not stop there.

In 2022, he sued his ex-wife, Amber Heard, for defamation related to Heard's article in The Washington Post that referred to her as a survivor of domestic violence.

The court ruled that both had defamed each other.

Depp admitted that it was hard to go through the process, but felt the need to defend himself.

"If I stay silent, it's like I'm agreeing to the accusations. I don't want my children to grow up with lies about who their father is," he said.

Now, Depp is ready to return to the world of cinema.

He will star in Lionsgate's action-comedy Day Drinker, alongside actress Penélope Cruz, who was previously his co-star in Blow.

This project is the first step in Johnny Depp's return to the big screen, after several years of controversy.
