Pakistani Father Kills Daughter for Refusing to Delete her TikTok Account

Liputan6.com, Jakarta A father in Pakistan shot his daughter dead because she refused to delete the TikTok app on her cell phone.

A police spokesman said that the perpetrator has now been arrested, as reported by AFP, Friday (July 11).

"The girl's father had asked her to delete her TikTok account. When she refused, he killed her," said the police spokesperson.

According to a police report shared with AFP, the incident took place on Tuesday (July 8) in Rawalpindi, next to Pakistan's capital, Islamabad.

Investigators said the father killed his 16-year-old daughter for the sake of honor.

The victim's family initially tried to say that the girl had died by suicide.

But after a police investigation, it was the father who killed his own daughter.

In Pakistan, there have been several cases where women have been victimized by their family members for not following the rules on how to behave in public, including online.

Last month, a TikTok influencer named Sana Yousaf, with hundreds of thousands of followers, was murdered at home by a man after his advances were rejected.

On TikTok, Sana Yousaf shared videos of her favorite cafes, skincare products, and traditional clothing.

TikTok itself is very popular in Pakistan.

However, Pakistani telecommunications authorities have repeatedly blocked or threatened to block the app.

The authorities cited immoral behavior as the reason.
