Arriving officers immediately provided medical evaluation to the victim.
"The victim sustained suspected non-life threatening injuries," read an official statement.
Rushed to the hospital
Nevertheless, the teenager was still taken to a nearby hospital for further examination as a precautionary measure.
It is known that the truck involved in the accident belongs to a private contracting company, TI Coastal Services.
The company was conducting a coastal survey on behalf of engineering firm Moffatt & Nichol in preparation for the upcoming 2025/2026 coastal restoration project.
"The beach survey began on July 7 and is scheduled to last for two weeks," said an official statement from the Oak Island municipality.
The survey included mapping of land and sea areas and had actually been scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 7.
However, it appears that work on the ground was still ongoing until the incident occurred, as reported by The New York Post.
Meanwhile, the Town of Oak Island dismissed rumors circulating on social media that the town's beach safety unit was involved in the accident.
"This information is NOT TRUE and should not be disseminated, either through social media or other platforms," the statement said.
The city added that spreading false information like this can undermine public trust in first responders and safety agencies.
"As in all serious cases, it is critical to evaluate the source of information before sharing it or forming an opinion," the statement concluded.
