This Woman Found Out She Was Pregnant 17 Hours Before Giving Birth

She had a rare condition called cryptic pregnancy.

Cryptic pregnancy is a condition where a person is unaware of their pregnancy until very late in pregnancy or even before delivery.

Reporting from People, on Sunday (July 13), she shared her story through a video uploaded to her personal TikTok account, @Charlotte-Maddison, on Friday (July 11), and received the attention of netizens.

Charlotte admitted that she had noticed changes in her body, such as weight gain and a two-size increase in her pants. However, she did not think the weight gain was due to pregnancy.

"I still buy size eight clothes. I did gain weight, but I thought it was because of the happy relationship and the stress I was experiencing," she said.

At the time, Charlotte was also still menstruating and using contraception, so there was no thought that she was carrying a baby.

However, at some point, Charlotte felt unwell and suspected she had a gluten allergy. She visited her GP on June 6, 2025. During the examination, the doctor asked Charlotte to take a pregnancy test.

She shared the news with her partner's family. After undergoing an ultrasound, Charlotte was shocked to learn that she was already 38 weeks along.

"At that point, I was really weak. I can't even explain what happened. It was like a dream," she explains.

Reporting from the Indian Express, Tuesday (July 15), her undetectable pregnancy was because the placenta was located at the front. This masks the common signs of pregnancy.

Knowing this, the doctor suggested induction because there was no fluid around the baby. Charlotte went straight to the hospital and gave birth to her son just 17 hours and 21 minutes after first finding out she was pregnant.

"I fell to my knees and threw up. I really don't understand what's happening right now. It's a shocking experience," Charlotte said.

Two hours later, Charlotte gave birth to a baby boy. Despite the initial shock, she is now embracing her role as a mother with her partner.
