Actor Song Young-kyu Dies at 55, After DUI Conviction

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Veteran South Korean actor Song Young Kyu was found dead on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the age of 55. 

This sad news shocked the public, especially since his death came just weeks after he was involved in a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) incident.

According to initial reports, Song Young Kyu was found dead in a parked car in a residential complex in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. 

According to authorities, per Yonhap News Agency, Song was found by an acquaintance, and the car was parked in a residential complex in Yongin, about 25 miles from Seoul, around 8 a.m. local time. 

South Korean police stated that no signs of violence or a suicide note were found at the scene. 

The exact cause of the actor's death is currently under further investigation by authorities.

The discovery of his body by an acquaintance early that morning sparked a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of this tragic incident.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, who are mourning his passing. 

Several weeks before his death, on June 19, 2025, Song Young Kyu was involved in a DUI incident that caused public outcry. 

As reported by People, on June 19, 2025 the actor is reportedly drove approximately five kilometers with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit, resulting in the revocation of his driver's license.

The DUI case has been forwarded to prosecutors and is awaiting indictment, causing significant stress for the actor. 

The incident resulted in his suspension from three ongoing projects, including two dramas and a theater production, which reportedly weighed heavily on his mind.

Song Young Kyu's funeral service is scheduled for August 6, 2025, with his final resting place at Hambeoksan Memorial Park.

Born on April 18, 1970, Song Young Kyu is an actor widely recognized for his contributions to South Korean theater, film, and television. 

He graduated from the Department of Theater at the Seoul Institute of the Arts, a prestigious arts institution.

His career began with the Seoul Municipal Musical Company, and he officially debuted in 1994 with the children's musical "The Magic Teacher." 

Since then, he has starred in numerous productions, cementing his reputation in the entertainment industry.

On the big screen, his role as the head of the violent crimes unit in the film "Extreme Job" (2019) became one of his most iconic, breaking audience records. 

He also appeared in popular television dramas such as "Narco-Saints" (Netflix) and "Big Bet" (Disney+), as well as the musicals "Les Misérables" and "Jekyll & Hyde."

Throughout his career, Song Young Kyu was known as a versatile actor capable of portraying a variety of characters.
