'Butterfly TV Show': Will There Be a Second Season?

Butterfly (2025) is a spy thriller adapted from the graphic novel series of the same name by Arash Amel, Marguerite Bennett, Antonio Fuso, and Stefano Simeone at Boom! Studios.

The series was created and written by Ken Woodruff and Steph Cha, with Kitao Sakurai directing the first two episodes.

The series centers on David Jung (played by Daniel Dae Kim), a highly unpredictable former US intelligence agent now living in South Korea.

His life is shattered when the consequences of his past decisions come back to haunt him, leading him to be pursued by Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), a sociopathic young agent, and the sinister spy organization Caddis.

The series was produced in South Korea and the United States, with the original language being English and Korean.

The six-episode first season was released in its entirety on August 13, 2025, on Amazon Prime Video.

As of August 12, 2025, Butterfly holds a 72% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on ten reviews.

To date, Butterfly has not been officially renewed for a second season by Amazon Prime Video.

If Butterfly Season 2 comes to pass, Kim could look outside of Korea, where all six episodes of the first season took place.

“I have lots of hopes for it. I hope there is a second season, first of all. But what I like about the show is that we’re already establishing that it’s an international show. So it makes the world our oyster. We could go anywhere. And given the nature of what David and Rebecca do, you could see them traveling. You could see them settling somewhere else. That’s kind of the goal at the start of Season 1. So we’ll see,” he explained.
