Don't Stop Believing Lyrics
Verse 1
Just a small-town girl, livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Verse 2
A singer in a smoky room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile, they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Chorus
Strangers waitin'
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searchin' in the night
Streetlight people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night
Verse 3
Workin' hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Verse 4
Some will win, some will lose
Some are born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
Chorus
Strangers waitin'
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searchin' in the night
Streetlight people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night
Guitar Solo
Outro
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlight people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people

The Story Behind Don't Stop Believing Lyrics
"Don't Stop Believing" was released in 1981. It was chosen as the second single of Journey's seventh studio album, Escape.
Escape is the first album to feature Jonathan Cain as the keyboardist. The ex-member of The Babys joined the band to fill the position of Gregg Rolie, who left Journey due to burnout.
Cain quickly brought a big impact to the band. Along with lead vocalist Steve Perry and guitarist Neal Schon, Cain wrote this iconic rock anthem. In fact, he was the one who came up with the most iconic line of the "Don't Stop Believing" lyrics. So, where did this idea come from?
According to American Songwriter, this iconic line came from Cain's dad. Before joining Journey, Cain was the keyboardist of The Babys, a famous British rock band. However, the band was sidelined after the vocalist injured his leg on stage. Feeling down, Cain called his father, who cheered him up and told him, "don't stop believing." After that, he wrote that line in his notebook.
After he joined Journey, Steve asked him if he had any lyrics or melody ideas for their new album. Cain, who was going through pages of his notebook to find inspiration, found his father's message. He said that he knew Steve would love that line and started writing a chord progression for the song. His prediction was right. Steve liked his idea, and with the help of Neal, the three of them started writing the rest of the song, and the rest is history.
