Perpetrator Identity: Robin Westman

The suspect in the deadly shooting at Annunciation Church has been identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman.

Information from senior law enforcement officials confirmed the suspect's identity to NBC News.

Robin Westman was born Robert Westman and legally changed his name to Robin in 2019 or 2021, identifying as a woman.

Westman filed a petition to change his birth name from Robert to Robin in Dakota County, Minnesota, when he was 17, according to court documents.

The name change was granted in January 2020.

“I don’t want to dress girly all the time but I guess sometimes I really like it. I know I am not a woman but I definitely don’t feel like a man,” he wrote.

“I really like my outfit. I look pretty, smart and modest. I think I want to wear something like this for my shooting.”

Westman died at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after the attack.

Motive for the Shooting Attack

Robin Westman's background suggests a connection to Annunciation Church.

Westman's mother previously worked as an administrative assistant at Annunciation Catholic School and retired in 2021.

Robin Westman herself was a student at the school and graduated from eighth grade in 2017.

Before the incident, Westman posted videos and writings online that indicated her mental state.

The content referred to suicide, "very violent thoughts and ideas," and apologies to her family.

In an entry, he writes, “If I carry out a racially motivated attack, it would be most likely against filthy Zionist jews,” before calling Jewish people “entitled” and “penny-sniffing” before adding “FREE PALESTINE!”

“I hate fascism,” read yet another page, following it up shortly after with “I also love when kids get shot, I love to see kids get torn apart.”

He later bemoaned the media, saying he is “tired of the news headlines.”

“They only talk about brown people dying and I don’t care about them. I like to hear when Israelis get killed, but they don’t like to report on that stuff,” he wrote.

Several articles in Westman's gun magazines were also found containing provocative slogans such as "Kill Donald Trump" and anti-Black, anti-Semitic, anti-Hispanic, and anti-God hate speech.

The demented manifesto sheds light on what appears to be a truly disturbed mind, with Weston musing about a grand “final act” — stating a desire to take out “a target of political or societal significance” before he died.

“Targets like Musk, Trump or some significant exec.”

However, Westman claimed he had no political motive.

“I don’t want to [do] it to spread a message. I do it to please myself. I do it because I am sick,” he wrote.
