Donnarumma's move to the Etihad Stadium came after his position at PSG began to decline.

He was not even included in PSG's squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham, indicating that coach Luis Enrique no longer considered him a first-choice player.

Donnarumma's arrival at Manchester City also paved the way for the Citizens' previous first-choice goalkeeper, Ederson, to continue his career at Turkish club Fenerbahce.
