Liputan6.com, Jakarta A giant shark was beaten to death after biting the leg of a man who was fishing in a river. The incident, which occurred in Palghar District, India, on Wednesday (14/2), began when the leg of a man identified as Vickey Govari was bitten by a shark. At that time, he was fishing in a river with his friends. Responding to Govari's screams, his friends immediately pulled him away from the shark.
However, their efforts to save themselves did not end there. They then beat the shark to death.Despite surviving, Govari suffered a bad condition in his calf muscle, so after that, he was immediately rushed to the hospital and received emergency treatment.
Pawan Sharma, founder and president of the non-profit organization RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare), said the shark involved in this incident was about seven feet long and weighed nearly 130 kg.
Shark attacks in rivers are unusual as these fish usually live in saltwater, such as the sea. However, bull sharks can live and breed in freshwater and are known to swim in narrow waterways.
Sharma mentioned that there are also reports and evidence of them being found in rivers and dams located several kilometers from saltwater for reasons such as lack of prey due to overfishing.
