James Gunn Announces Title and Release Date for Superman: Man of Tomorrow Sequel

The sequel, now has the official title "Man of Tomorrow" and is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027.

This announcement provides clarity for fans eagerly awaiting the continuation of the iconic hero's story in the new DC Universe.

With James Gunn returning to write and direct, "Man of Tomorrow" is expected to maintain the same creative vision as the first film.

Main cast members David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor are also confirmed to reprise their roles.

The sequel to "Superman" (2025) is now officially titled "Man of Tomorrow."

In his announcement, Gunn included a comic book image of Superman standing next to Lex Luthor in his Warsuit, a clear sign that the sequel will continue to focus on Luthor's antipathy toward the Man of Steel.

In the DC comics, Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult in the film) created the suit to match Superman's powers and abilities.

This announcement came directly from James Gunn, who confirmed that the film will be an integral part of the broader "Superman Saga," not just another "Superman 2."

In a July post on Threads, Gunn said "Superman has a major role" in the movie he was writing, but he said "it's not 'Superman 2.'" Speaking with Collider in August, Gunn noted he would be shooting the movie "much sooner rather than later."

The release date for "Man of Tomorrow" has been set for July 9, 2027.

James Gunn will once again take on the dual role of writer and director for "Man of Tomorrow."

In August, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav personally announced that Gunn would return to write and direct the sequel to the character's creative reboot.

The film grossed over $611 million at the worldwide box office this summer, making it the highest-grossing superhero film of the year.

The main cast from "Superman" (2025) is also confirmed to return in "Man of Tomorrow."

David Corenswet will return as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

"Superman" (2025) itself introduced various other DC characters, such as Mister Terrific, Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, The Engineer, and Rick Flag Sr.

The release of "Man of Tomorrow" in 2027 means DC will release three consecutive summer feature films.

A new "Supergirl" film starring Milly Alcock, whose character was introduced in "Superman," is scheduled for release in June 2026.

After that, a "Clayface" film will hit theaters in September 2026, and a new "Wonder Woman" film is also in development.

The long-delayed sequel to "The Batman" starring Robert Pattinson, set outside the mainstream DC universe, is also slated for release in October 2027, with filming expected to begin in the spring.

On the television side, the world of "Superman" has continued with the second season of "Peacemaker," which premiered on August 21 and brought back several characters from the film.
