The FBI is currently investigating the incident as an ideologically motivated act of targeted violence, given the discovery of ammunition marked "ANTI-ICE" at the scene.
The attack has sparked political debate and calls for a reduction in rhetoric against law enforcement.
A thorough investigation is underway by the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to identify all contributing factors to this tragedy.
How the Shooting Incident Happened at the ICE Facility
The shooting occurred on the morning of Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at approximately 6:40 a.m. local time.
Joshua Jahn, a 29-year-old man from Allen, Texas, launched an attack from the rooftop of a nearby immigration attorney's building.
He fired indiscriminately into the ICE facility, targeting a van carrying detainees at the sally port, or secure entrance.
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing between six and ten consecutive gunshots.
After the burst of gunfire, the perpetrator allegedly shot himself.
The bullets fired by Jahn were found to have penetrated all parts of the ICE facility.
As a result of this incident, two immigration detainees were reportedly killed at the scene, while two others suffered critical injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

Joshua Jahn's Motive and Background
While the investigation is ongoing, the FBI has indicated that this incident was a targeted act of violence with ideological motives.
Initial evidence recovered at the scene, including unfired ammunition with the words "ANTI-ICE" written on it, supports this suspicion.
Authorities “found bullets throughout the entire building that had punctured into the facility”, ICE deputy director Madison Sheahan said.
Law enforcement sources have stated that Joshua Jahn allegedly holds far-left views and may have been influenced by the group ANTIFA.
A communist profile picture on Jahn's social media accounts also provided early clues in the investigation into the motive.
However, Jahn's brother, Noah Jahn, disputed these claims, stating that his brother was not particularly interested in politics and never expressed anti-ICE views to the family.
Joshua Jahn himself was a former Boy Scout from Allen, Texas, and attended the University of Texas at Dallas and Collin College.
Public records indicate he had no history of violent crime, only having been arrested and pleaded guilty to a marijuana charge in 2016, which resulted in five years of probation and a fine.
He was released early from his probation in 2017.
Political Backlash and Further Investigation
The shooting of Joshua Jahn immediately sparked a strong reaction from political leaders.
In a post on Truth Social, his social media platform, President Trump said he had been briefed on the Dallas shooting.
He described the attacker as “deranged”, referred to the “Anti-ICE” message allegedly found on the shell casings and called that “despicable”.
President Donald Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem publicly blamed the "Radical Left" for the shooting.
Trump did not mention the victims, but instead urged, “CALLING ON ALL DEMOCRATS TO STOP THIS RHETORIC AGAINST ICE AND AMERICA’S LAW ENFORCEMENT, RIGHT NOW!”
“These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off,” FBI Kash Patel said in a social media post.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem also asserted that the attack was "motivated by hatred of ICE" and urged all parties to tone down potentially incendiary rhetoric.
The incident occurred just two weeks after the murder of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk, an event that prompted Trump to vow to take action against left-wing extremists.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz also called on lawmakers to stop "demonizing" immigration agents, emphasizing the importance of supporting law enforcement.
The FBI, DHS, and ATF continue to work together on a comprehensive investigation to uncover all aspects of this tragedy and ensure justice for the victims.
"I have been briefed on the deadly shooting at the ICE Field Office in Dallas, Texas. It has now been revealed the deranged shooter wrote “Anti-ICE” on his shell casings...
