Adapting the theme from Hasbro's Monopoly board game, the game aims to capture customer attention and significantly increase sales.

After being absent in the US for nearly a decade, the return is expected to evoke nostalgia while offering a new experience with enhanced security.

In the United States, early registration will open from September 29 to October 5, 2025, with the main play period running from October 6 to November 2, 2025.

Participants will have the chance to win a variety of prizes, ranging from free menu items to a grand prize worth millions of dollars, such as cash, luxury cars, and vacation trips.

The return of McDonald's Monopoly also marks a new era following the "McMillions" scandal that rocked the promotion in the past.

McDonald's Monopoly Returns to the United States (2025)

After a long wait, McDonald's Monopoly will return to customers in the United States.

The promotional schedule has been set, with an early registration period through the McDonald's app from September 29 to October 5, 2025.

The main game will run from October 6 to November 2, 2025, giving fans ample time to collect game pieces.

To participate, customers must download the McDonald's app, enroll in the rewards program, and then register for the game.

Game pieces can be obtained physically from the packaging of select menu items like the Big Mac or Chicken McNuggets, or digitally through the app when ordering.

Each piece has a unique code that can be scanned or entered into the app to reveal prizes or collect digital pieces.

The prizes on offer are diverse and attractive, with a total value of over $471 million.

The top prize includes $1 million cash, a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 1 million American Airlines AAdvantage Miles, and a trip to Universal Orlando Resort.

How to Play McDonald's Monopoly Game

Signing up to play this game, just like following the rules, is quite easy. You just need to follow these three steps:

  • Download the McDonald’s app, click “Rewards,” and then you’ll be able to register to play the game (If you pre-register between Sept. 29 and Oct. 5, you get 500 bonus MyMcDonald’s Rewards points.)
  • Get to ordering! Registered players can order select menu items and get a “game piece,” either physical or digital, to play with starting Oct. 6 (To play McDonald’s Monopoly without making a purchase, visit amoe.playatmcd.com to request a game piece.)
  • “Peel” to find out what you’ve won. (For digital game pieces, you can “peel” to find out your prize directly in the McDonald’s app, and for physical game pieces, you peel directly from the packaging, then scan the QR code with the McDonald’s app.)

Registered players will also get a “second chance” to win through Nov. 2, if they choose to play an in-app bonus game.

The "McMillions" Scandal

McDonald's Monopoly game was first introduced in 1987 and quickly became one of the most popular promotions.

However, its popularity was disturbed by a major scandal known as "McMillions" between 1989 and 2001.

This conspiracy involved Jerome P. Jacobson, a security guard responsible for distributing winning game pieces.

Jacobson systematically stole high-value game pieces and distributed them to a network of family, friends, and even mafia connections.

This fraud scheme cost McDonald's approximately $24 million in fraudulent prizes.

As a result, more than 50 people were convicted of fraud, and Jacobson himself served prison time and was ordered to pay restitution.

The scandal was the subject of the 2020 HBO documentary series "McMillion$," which revealed the details of the conspiracy.
