The Elder Scrolls 6: Recent Update and Studio Focus

Todd Howard explicitly stated that The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently "progressing very well," which is welcome news for loyal fans.

"It’s progressing really well," Howard told GI.

"The majority of the studio’s on [TES]6, but I’ll say this: We always overlap. So, we’re very used to overlapping development. And we have long pre-productions on things so that we feel good about them. And it’s a process. We all wish it went a little bit faster—or a lot faster—but it’s a process that we want to get right."

Furthermore, Howard revealed that "the majority of the studio" at Bethesda Game Studios is now focused on the development of The Elder Scrolls 6.

While the majority of the team is focused on The Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda is known for its "overlapping development" model, where multiple projects can run concurrently.

The game itself entered "early development" in August 2023, and an "early build" was available in March 2024, indicating that the game is already in a playable stage, though still far from final.

Technology and Release Date Prediction

The Elder Scrolls 6 will be built using Creation Engine 2, the same game engine used for Starfield.

The engine has undergone its biggest overhaul ever, with significant improvements expected to deliver a more immersive visual and gameplay experience.

Despite the progress, The Elder Scrolls 6's release date is still "very far away."

Howard himself admitted that everyone hopes the process can be faster, but the top priority is ensuring the game is perfect.

Many project The Elder Scrolls 6 will be released in "2026 or later," with the most realistic estimates being between 2027 and 2028. This long wait is expected to be commensurate with the quality and scale of the fantasy world it will present.
