Blizzard Rebrands Overwatch 2 Back to 'Overwatch': A Season Full of New Heroes

This change also coincides with the launch of Season 1, titled 'The Reign of Talon', which will begin on February 10, 2026, featuring the first fully connected annual narrative storyline in Overwatch history, spanning six full seasons with five new heroes ready to enliven the battlefield.

In addition to the name change and new content, Blizzard also confirmed that a new version of Overwatch will be launching on the Nintendo Switch 2.

While a specific release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 has not been announced, it is expected to be released in 2026, alongside Season 2.

Blizzard Entertainment officially announced the removal of the '2' from the game's title, returning it to simply 'Overwatch'.

This change comes four years after the initial decision to name the game Overwatch 2.

In a press release, Blizzard explained that "Overwatch is more than just a number: it's a living universe that continues to grow, continues to surprise, and continues to unite players from all over the world."

They added that this year marked a major turning point in the development team's vision for the future of Overwatch, leading them to officially drop the '2' and move forward as 'Overwatch'.

The new Season 1, titled 'The Reign of Talon', will kick off the first fully connected annual narrative storyline in Overwatch history, spanning six seasons.

The story will center on the rise of the Talon group, a criminal organization dedicated to strengthening humanity through conflict.

It will be told through various media, including in-game events, hero trailers, animated comics, short stories, and map updates.

Map updates will reflect story events, such as the damage to the Watchpoint: Gibraltar base after the Talon attack, allowing players to experience the narrative's impact firsthand.

Ten new heroes will be introduced throughout 2026, with five launching alongside Season 1 on February 10th.

These heroes are designed to expand the tactical possibilities in the Tank, Damage, and Support roles.

• Domina (Tank, Talon Affiliation): The heiress and vice president of Vishkar Industries, Domina is an elegant battlefield controller with long-range precision and control of defensive zones. Her abilities include Photon Magnum, Barrier Array, Crystal Charge, Sonic Repulsors, and the Ultimate Panopticon, which can trap enemies.
• Emre (Damage, Talon Affiliation): A former Overwatch agent now allied with Talon, Emre is a fast and mobile warrior with a conflicted identity due to cybernetic modifications. She utilizes the Synthetic Burst Rifle, Take Aim, Siphon Blaster, Cyber ​​Frag, and the Ultimate Override Protocol.
• Mizuki (Support, Talon Affiliation): A member of the Hashimoto clan and an ally of Talon, Mizuki adds to the exciting roster of Support heroes.
• Anran (Damage, Overwatch Affiliation): A highly mobile assassin who manipulates fire, Anran is Wuyang's older sister and was recruited by Winston into Overwatch.
