Rivian R2: Models, Price, Specs, and Release Date of the Long-Awaited Modern EV

The Rivian R2's debut is scheduled for Spring 2026 and not only offers a more compact footprint but also boasts a range of innovative features and impressive specifications.

The Rivian R2 is expected to disrupt the mid-size electric SUV segment with its combination of captivating design, robust performance, and advanced technology.

The Rivian R2 will be available in four different variants.

The first variant to be available is the R2 Performance AWD with Launch Package, priced starting at $57,990 before delivery.

The R2 Premium AWD will follow in late 2026 with a starting price of $53,990.

For consumers looking for a more affordable option, the R2 Standard RWD Long Range will be available in early 2027 with an estimated price of $48,490.

Finally, the R2 Standard RWD variant, priced at around $45,000, is scheduled to arrive in late 2027.

Reservations for all Rivian R2 variants are now open with a $100 refundable deposit, giving prospective buyers the opportunity to secure their unit early.

The R2 Performance AWD variant leads the way with 656 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque, enabling 0-60 mph acceleration in just 3.6 seconds, and an EPA-estimated range of up to 330 miles (approximately 531 km).

The R2 Premium AWD, with 450 horsepower and 537 lb-ft of torque, can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and has the same EPA-estimated range of up to 330 miles.

Meanwhile, the R2 Standard RWD Long Range offers 350 horsepower, 355 lb-ft of torque, a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds, and an estimated range of up to 345 miles, according to Rivian.

Even the base variant, the R2 Standard RWD, has an estimated range of over 275 miles (about 442 km).

Rivian aims for all R2 variants to have a range of over 300 miles.

Every Rivian R2 model will be equipped with the latest battery and charging technology to ensure user convenience and efficiency.

All models will utilize NACS (North American Charging Standard) charging ports, allowing easy access to Tesla's extensive Supercharger network.

Support for other charging networks is also available via CCS adapters.

One of the key features is DC fast charging capability, which allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 29 minutes.

The Long Range battery's usable capacity is 87.9 kWh.

The Rivian R2's design mirrors has dimensions of 185.9 inches (4,715 mm) long and 75 inches (1,905 mm) wide make it agile in urban environments, yet robust with a ground clearance of 9.6 inches.

Rivian also introduced three new exterior colors: Catalina Cove, Esker Silver, and Half Moon Grey.

The Rivian R2's interior is designed with a focus on luxury and functionality, featuring premium Birch wood accents.

Several unique features add to the interior's appeal, such as a fully retractable rear window that extends into the rear doors, an integrated Rivian Torch flashlight in the driver's door, and two glove compartments for additional storage.

Rivian's premium audio system with nine speakers and 975W of power ensures an immersive entertainment experience, complemented by two main displays: a driver display and a larger center infotainment screen.

The Rivian R2 features an updated electrical architecture, enabling greater computing power and future over-the-air (OTA) updates, keeping the vehicle relevant with the latest technology.

An advanced multi-sensor perception system, comprised of eleven HDR cameras (65 combined megapixels) and five radars, forms the backbone of the driver assistance system.

The available Autonomy+ driver assistance suite supports hands-free driving on more than 3.5 million miles of road in the U.S. and Canada, enhancing safety and driving comfort.

Autonomy+ is available for purchase for $2,500 or a subscription of $49.99 per month, with every R2 shipment including a 60-day free trial.

200 TOPS of edge AI computing power is integrated to enhance the in-cabin experience.

Rivian plans to leverage this AI for future features, including an in-vehicle voice assistant, which will further enhance the driver's interaction with the Rivian R2.
