Apple Officially Releases AirPods Max 2: What New Features Does It Have?

Apple launched the AirPods Max 2 with several significant improvements. Here are the features, pricing, and availability details.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Apple officially introduced AirPods Max 2, on Monday, March 16, 2026.

The announcement was made abruptly via press release, without any special event or preceding leaks.

Pre-orders for the AirPods Max 2 will begin on March 25, 2026, giving Apple fans a chance to get their hands on the device immediately.

Consumer shipments are expected to begin in early April 2026.

At the same launch price as the previous model, at $549, Apple is striving to maintain the AirPods Max's position as the leading choice in the premium headphone segment.

Revolutionary Performance Improvement with the H2 Chip

The most crucial update to the AirPods Max 2 lies in the use of the advanced H2 chip, replacing the previous generation's H1 chip.

This chip, previously proven reliable in the AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, and AirPods 4, brings significantly faster and more intelligent audio processing capabilities.

The integration of the H2 chip forms the foundation for all the performance improvements offered by the AirPods Max 2.

Thanks to the processing power of the H2 chip and new computational audio algorithms, the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) feature on the AirPods Max 2 is claimed to be 1.5 times more effective than the previous generation.

In addition to ANC, Transparency Mode has also seen substantial improvements thanks to optimizations by the H2 chip and a new microphone array.

Users can now remain aware of their surroundings without removing the AirPods Max 2.

Furthermore, the AirPods Max 2 are equipped with a new high-dynamic amplifier that produces cleaner audio with minimal distortion.

Personalized Spatial Audio with Dynamic Head Tracking has also been enhanced.

New Smart Features for a Maximum Audio Experience

The H2 chip unlocks a range of new smart features not previously available on the first-generation AirPods Max.

One of the most prominent is Adaptive Audio, which automatically adjusts noise cancellation and transparency levels based on the user's surroundings. This ensures an optimal listening experience in various situations without the need for manual adjustments.

The Conversation Awareness feature is also a significant breakthrough, where the AirPods Max 2 automatically lower the volume of the audio being listened to and increase transparency mode when the user begins to speak.

Additionally, Voice Isolation uses advanced computational audio to prioritize the user's voice during calls.

Other innovations include Live Translation, a real-time translation feature powered by Apple Intelligence.

Studio-quality audio recording capabilities are also available, along with Loud Sound Reduction to protect hearing from sudden loud noises, and Personalized Volume, which learns the user's listening preferences over time.

Furthermore, interaction with Siri can now be done through head movements, further enhancing ease of use. Users can also utilize AirPods Max 2 as a Camera Remote.

Familiar Design, Superior Audio, and Optimal Battery Life

The design remains identical to the previous model, featuring a comfortable mesh headband, premium aluminum earcups, and an intuitive Digital Crown.

The available color options also match the palette introduced with the 2024 USB-C update: midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue.

For audio quality, the AirPods Max 2 now support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected with the included USB-C cable.

Wireless audio latency is also lower, making them ideal for gaming on iOS, macOS, and iPadOS devices.

The device is equipped with a total of nine microphones, eight for Active Noise Cancellation and three for voice pickup, ensuring clear communication.

Connectivity is enhanced with Bluetooth 5.3, ensuring a stable and efficient connection with other Apple devices.

The AirPods Max 2 weighs the same as the first generation, at 386.2 grams.

The AirPods Max 2 battery life also remains impressive, offering up to 20 hours of listening time with Active Noise Cancellation or Transparency mode enabled.

For movie playback, users can enjoy up to 20 hours with ANC and Spatial Audio enabled.

The fast charging feature allows a 5-minute charge to get approximately 1.5 hours of listening time.
